Kenneth L. McWilliams, age 82, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Freeman Hospital. Ken was born August 5, 1934 in Carthage.
On October 20, 1957, Ken married Mary Miller in Carthage, who survives.
Ken attended school in Carthage and graduated in 1954. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was awarded the Soldier’s Medal for Heroism.
Ken retired from Leggett and Platt. He also farmed for many years and enjoyed woodworking in his retirement years.
He was a man of few words but was known for his sense of humor.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Avis McWilliams and a brother, Robert Lee McWilliams. He is survived by two sisters, Martha (Mark)Wheat, Huntsville, AL and Barbara (Warren) Pendleton, Carthage, Mo.
Other survivors include four daughters, Pamela (Randy) Doerksen, of Hutchinson, Ks. Debbie (John) Burgi of Branson, Mo. Diane McWilliams of Carthage, Mo. and Julie (Tom) Ellis of Springfield, Mo. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Addy Burgi of Jonesboro, Ar, Kevin (Carrie) Burgi of Joplin, Mo, Kyle Doerksen of Hutchinson, Ks, Chris (Brandy) Ellis of Neosho, Mo, and Jamie (Chris) Foster of Exeter, Mo. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren, Hannah Burgi, Ellie Burgi, Olivia Burgi, Trey Foster, Jacob Foster and Landon Ellis.
Visitation will be held 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, March 16, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Carthage. Minister Thad Beeler will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Park Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to First Baptist Church in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W.
