Mary Evelyn Hailey, 95, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017. She was born in Harlon, Iowa on August 26, 1921. She was a long time resident of Neosho where she graduated from Neosho High School in 1939. She retired from Jefferson Lines Co. in 1986.
Mary did volunteer work for The Red Cross, Santa’s Helpers, A.R.M., the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home in Mt. Vernon, where she was on the steering committee as supervisor of crafts and quilts. She was an avid quilter and at 95 still enjoyed making handmade gifts for family and friends. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church in Neosho for 57 years. After moving to Webb City in 1994 she joined the First Baptist Church of Webb City and in her last few years attended Wellspring Church in Webb City.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Cecil Hailey; sisters, Mable Woolard, Francis Babb and Dorothy Hailey and brothers, Rex Hailey, David Hailey, John Hailey and Jerry Hailey. She is survived by her daughter, Pam Gollhofer and husband, Stephen; grandsons, Seth Gollhofer and wife, Amy and Drew Gollhofer and wife, Karla; three great grandchildren, Isabel, Norah and Bryson and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Wellspring Church in Webb City. Pastor Scott Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in the New Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mary may be made to the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home in Mt. Vernon, c/o Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Neosho, MO 64850.
