Danny Ray Goodwin, age 71, Neosho, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Danny was born October 31, 1945 in Leavenworth, Kansas to the late Daniel Boone Goodwin and Helen Geraldine Raymond Goodwin.
He graduated from Neosho High School in 1963 and attended Missouri State University, receiving a bachelor's degree in Psychology and master's degree in Sociology. Danny worked for years in the Kansas prison system as a corrections officer and counselor and most recent as a security guard for Opal Foods, Neosho.
In his spare time, Danny enjoyed target shooting and was an avid fisherman. He loved the challenge of a good poker game and played at local casino's and any home games he could find. In his youth, Danny was an established Golden Gloves boxer.
He married Judith Kay Courtney Murphy on June 10, 1993 in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include a sister, Donna Vance and her husband, Cecil, Seneca; a niece, Tausha Johnson, Carthage; a nephew, Cory Kruse, Kansas City; and a granddaughter, Celia Murphy.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society, in care of Parker Mortuary.
