Donald L. 'Don' Capps, age 87, Springfield, Missouri, passed away at 3:07 a.m. Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
Don was born June 13, 1929 in Watonga, Oklahoma to the late Charles Capps and Gladys Smith Capps and had lived in Joplin since 1952.
He worked for the Joplin School District for over 30 years as a building engineer and carpenter. Don also owned and operated Custodial Services Company for thirty years.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. Don was a faithful member of Harmony Heights Baptist Church in Joplin for over 40 years. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Don married Barbara Hamilton on November 20, 1953 in Joplin. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include two children, Missy Oglesby and her husband, Kent, Springfield, David Capps and his wife, Pam, Port Washington, New York; and grandchildren, Drew Oglesby and wife, Hope, Taylor Oglesby, Rachel Oglesby, Ryan Capps, Danny Capps and Trevor Capps.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial services are planned for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Tim Sumners will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
