Norvin Howard Phillippe, age 80, Joplin, formerly of St. Joseph Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Freeman West Hospital after a sudden illness.
Norvin was born May 21, 1936 in Guilford, Missouri, son of the late Harley James Phillippe and Emma Grace Patrick Phillippe. He was one of fifteen children, grew up in Island City, Missouri before serving in the United States Navy from 1954 through 1959. He returned to Kansas City where he worked for a few years before moving to St. Joseph where he worked for many years, retiring from Altec as maintenance supervisor in 1998.
He married Mary Lou Beggs on April 3, 1955 in Guilford, she preceded him in death on October 26, 2010. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Laveda Jean Thornton, one brother, and his parents.
Survivors include his children, Pamela K. McCart and husband Dennis of Weeki Wachee, Florida, Deborah Lynn Turner and husband Ted of Springdale, Arkansas, Jeffrey Lee Phillippe of Colorado, and Todd Wesley Phillippe of Springfield, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; 10 brothers, three sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 2:00 to 4: 00 p.m. at the Rupp Funeral Home in St. Joseph, Missouri. Interment of his ashes will be Sunday, May 7, 2017 with Military Honors in Weathermon Cemetery, Guilford, Missouri.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
