James R. "Jimmy" Goforth of Commerce, OK passed from this life on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at his home. He was 70.
Jimmy was born August 23, 1947 in Columbus, KS to Delbert and Juanita (Warbington) Goforth. He was a lifelong Commerce resident. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He was a truck driver for Panter Brothers Trucking for 25 years. Jimmy was a bull rider in area rodeos and an all around cowboy training horses up until recently.
Jimmy was a member of the Peoria Tribe and the V.F.W. Post in Baxter Springs, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joe Goforth.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Florence Goforth of the home, his son Dusty Goforth of Welch, OK, his daughter Jamee Heatherly and her husband Kevin of Quapaw, OK, his sister, Juanita Bruce of Joplin, MO, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Commerce, OK with Chaplain Dan Weisner officiating. Interment will follow in N.E.O. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in North Miami, OK with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 147 Funeral Detail. Jan Kellog, Gale Bachman, Jack Buttram, Dawson Pruitt, Rick Fields and Steve Berry will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Gandy, Cory Thompson, Jerry Bayliss, Harold Jones and Jack Heatherly.
