Debra A. Pope, 63, Joplin, MO passed away at her home after a sudden illness on Friday, November 17, 2017. Debra Alane Lyttle was born a preacher’s kid on August 13, 1954 in Miami, OK. She was the daughter of Robert Allan Lyttle and the late Shirley Neely Lyttle. She graduated from Carthage Senior High School in the Class of 1972, attended Ozark Christian College, Joplin then later received her RN degree from Crowder College, Neosho, MO. Debra was an RN for Freeman West Hospital, Joplin and was a member of the First Christian Church, Carthage. She married Larry Pope on February 28, 2006 in Hot Sulphur Springs, CO; he survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Joniece (Glenn) Makowski, Webb City, MO; a son, Allan (Nikie) Welch, Carthage; a sister, JoAnn Lyttle Draper, Branson West, a brother, Bobby Lyttle, Carthage; six grandchildren, John Thomas, Lauren Elisabeth and Lillian Grace Makowski, and Kelton Jude, Lyla Elise and Lena Alane Welch. She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley and a sister, Jan Alea Winder. She also leaves behind many beloved friends and extended family members.
Memorial services will be held 6:00 pm, Thursday, November 30, 2017 at First Christian Church, Carthage. Private family inurnment will be held in Park Cemetery, Carthage. Minister Tom Thomas of Inverness, FL and Minister Greg Turner of Lebanon, MO will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the Neely-Lyttle-Turner Christian Education Scholarship Memorial Fund at Ozark Christian College, Joplin, MO.
