Kenneth Loyd Hirshey passed away in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 27, 2017.
Kenneth Loyd Hirshey was born December 19, 1932 in Newton County, Missouri to Glen Franklin Hirshey and Ella Olive (Everhard) Hirshey. Ken graduated from Diamond, High School in 1950 where he achieved State Farmer degree. He attended Joplin Junior College for one year before being recruited to the University of Missouri, receiving an athletic scholarship and lettering each year in Track and Field. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor Degree in Vocational Agriculture in 1955. It was at the University of Missouri where he met Rita Ruth Chapin and they were married Rita Ruth Chapin on June 11, 1955 in her childhood city of St. Louis, Missouri. He then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Ken and Rita’s children are Carol Ann and Kenneth Loyd Jr.
Ken taught at Billings and Rich Hill, Missouri, He got a Master's Degree from Missouri State University after which he worked for the Federal Land Bank Association at Hannibal, Missouri. After seven years, Ken accepted a job with the US Army Corps of Engineers which relocated him from Hannibal to Omaha, Nebraska where he began his role as a real estate appraiser. From Omaha Ken served as Chief of Real Estate for the District office in Memphis, TN residing in West Memphis, Arkansas. Ken’s final career move was the Division Chief of Real Estate moving Rita and Ken to Cincinnati, Ohio where he retired in 1989. After a long battle with cancer, Ken laid to rest his beloved wife Rita Ruth.
Ken then married Rita (Pennington) Eckart on November 25, 1994, in New Richmond, Ohio. He added many new loved ones to his family, including Sally Wylie (Dave) and Teresa Dufau (Tim). Every one of them loved Ken and he showed them the same.
Ken was baptized as a Christian in 1947 and at the time of death, he was a member of the New Richmond, Ohio Church of Christ serving as an elder and church leader wherever he worshiped.
Besides his wife he is survived by son Ken Jr (Dena); five grandchildren: Zach and Zeke Curry; Alisha (Curry) Cunningham (Rob); Lauren (Hirshey) Colwell (Matt), Brandon Hirshey; and three great grandchildren; son-in-law Bruce Curry; his sister, Doris (Hirshey) Greer (Bill) and his nieces and nephews: Sam (Kim), Dan (Donna), Scot (Diana), Katy (John) and Beth Greer and grandchildren. Also surviving are his loved step daughters, Sally Wylie (Dave) and Teresa Dufau (Tim); step grandchildren: Autumn Hill (Brad); Timmy Dufau (Ally); Keith Dufau; and five great grandchildren; and Rita's brothers and sisters and one Aunt, Nina Hirshey; Everhard and Hirshey cousins and many friends from South Texas to Ohio. We will all miss his loving presence, phone calls, wisdom and knowledge that he shared.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, 1 December 2017, at Mason-Woodard Chapel located at 3701 East Seventh Street; Joplin, Missouri. Dave Wiley, Minister will officiate. Burial will be in Powers Cemetery, near Diamond, Mo. The visitation will be at 10:15a.m. Friday, prior to the service.
