Rev. Kevin E. Melton, age 61, Webb City, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Freeman West surrounded by his family as they sang How Great Thou Art to him.
Kevin was born January 26, 1956 in Joplin, son of Darrel and Virginia Melton of Joplin. He graduated from Seneca High School, and then attended Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar. He has been a pastor since being ordained by Empire Baptist Church of Joplin after college. He has served several churches in this area as pastor including Empire Baptist, Spring City Baptist Church for 14 years and most recently was with First Baptist Church of Purcell for the past 8 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Carl Junction for several years while taking a sabbatical from pastoring but continued to preach and lead discipleship efforts there. In addition to pastoring, Kevin worked for Massa Distributing Company for over 30 years until the business closed. He then worked Fletcher Auto Group, and most recently was working for Freeman Health System as the Visitor Shuttle Driver. Kevin was a counselor, teacher, second father and friend to so many people in this community. He was always known for his devotion to his wife, children, and he loved being the best Pe-Paw to his grandchildren. Kevin and Pam extended their family by hosting six foreign exchange students while their children were in school.
In addition to his parents, Kevin is survived by his wife of 41 years, Pamela Greninger Melton; children, Amie Melton, Ryan Melton and wife Leslie, and Nate Melton and wife Kristi all of Webb City; grandchildren, Abby, Katie, Hannah, Camden, and Matthew; sister, Kristy Verbrick and husband Carey of Rocky Comfort, Missouri; brothers, Kenny Melton and wife Polly of Joplin, and Kelley Melton and wife Lesley of Webb City; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Carl Junction with family officiating.
The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Carl Junction on Friday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Missouri Baptist Children's Home.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
