Sandra R. Calvin, age 75, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on November 26, 2017, at her home following an illness.
Sandra was born on October 23, 1942 in Kansas City, Mo. the daughter of the late Ralph and Alma Shipman. She worked as the manager of the bakery/deli at the Food Barn in Moberly, Mo. She was known for the many beautiful wedding cakes she made for weddings in the area. She moved to Joplin in 1999 from Moberly, Mo. She worked for a time for Joplin Schools as a librarian. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Sisters of Laureate Epsi Lon Omicron. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Sisters of Laureate Epsi Lon Omicron and St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for their love and support throughout Sandra’s illness.
She married Jerry Calvin on May 18, 1987 in Moberly, Mo., and he survives. Additional survivors include; one son, Tony Torrello and wife Cathy, Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Michele Torello, Belton, Mo., and Tonda K. Bryant, Marshfield, Vt.; two brothers, Jerry Shipman and wife Jane, LaHabra Heights, Ca., and Tom Shipman and wife Jeanne, Topeka, Ks.; one sister Barbara Green and husband Phil, Paducah, Ky.; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-grandson, Evan Torello.
It was Sandra’s wish to be cremated, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
