Cynthia Ann Bourne, age 86, Joplin, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Spring River Christian Village.
Cynthia was born November 6, 1931 in Joplin, daughter of the late Charles and Mildred Zimmerman. She graduated from Joplin High School, and earned her teaching degree at Pittsburg State University. She was a teacher in Baxter Springs, Kansas for several years, and taught third grade and then high school.
After retiring as a teacher, she was involved at St. John's Hospital as a volunteer with the St. John's Auxiliary. She was very proud of her sobriety for over 40 years, and helped many with their struggles over that time. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Alexander Bourne on April 12, 2013. She also lost two sons, Richard "Rich" Leslie, and Robert "Rob" Leslie, and a brother, Gordon Edward Zimmerman.
Survivors include her step-sons, Frederick A. "Rick" Bourne, Jr. of Rhodes, Michigan, and Richard "Dick" Bourne of Carl Junction; grandchildren, Angie Garcia and husband Victor of McKinney, Texas, Lindsey Schuette and husband Vance of Lubbock, Texas, Sarah Bourne and husband Scott Schultz of St. Croiz, Virgin Islands, Seth Bourne and partner Kenny Wiggins of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Jason Lonie, and Jeffrey Lonie; several great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Friday, January 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel. Inurnment of her ashes will be private in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
