Helen Marie “Dipper” Achey Schnake, 87, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Helen was born August 16, 1930 in Greenfield, Missouri to Delbert and Mollie “Shaffer” Dipper. She was a longtime resident of Carthage, attended Carthage High School and graduated with the Class of 1949. Helen was a homemaker, an avid quilter, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Carthage.
Helen was united in marriage to John H. Achey, Jr. November 7, 1949 at the First Baptist Church in Carthage; he preceded her in death July 12, 1986. Helen was then united in marriage to J.B. Schnake on March 14, 1998 at the First Baptist Church in Carthage; he preceded her in death July 1, 2009.
Helen is survived by one son, Lynn Achey (Jeanne) of Sheldon, MO; two daughters, Glenda McDonald (Jim) of Lucas, TX and Donna Corder of Little Rock, AR; one step-son, Jerald Schnake (Dea) of Carthage; one step-daughter, Janice Greene (Brian) of Springfield, MO; ten grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers and two half-brothers.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Hackney Cemetery, Northeast of Carthage.
