Harold E. Wilson, age 86, Joplin, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Freeman West He had been in failing health since August of 2017.
Harold was born February 23, 1931 in Joplin, son of the late Ralph L. Wilson and Jane Alkaire Wilson. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Betty Smith on June 23, 1957 at the First United Methodist Church of Joplin. He worked as a barber in Joplin beginning in 1956, and owned his own shop, Harold Wilson Barber Shop from 1967 until 1976. He then worked at Modine Manufacturing from 1978 until his retirement in 1993. After retiring, he and his wife Betty built and sold several homes in the Joplin area. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph Wilson, Jr., and Jim Wilson.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty A. Wilson; son, David H. Wilson of Columbia, Missouri; daughter, Karen J. Orr and husband Steve of Independence, Kansas; grandsons, Zack Orr of Evans, Colorado, and Shelby Wilson of Columbia.
Graveside services will be Monday, February 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with his nephew, Pastor Robert Wilson, officiating.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Sunday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Joplin or Grove, Oklahoma Humane Societies.
