Jerry W. Jones, 69, of Wentworth, Missouri, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
Jerry was born on October 6, 1948 in Carthage, Missouri, to the late Homer and Mary (Welsh) Jones. He was a graduate of Sarcoxie High School. On March 23, 1968 he was united in marriage to Carol Carver. Jerry proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, returning home in 1970. He was employed many years with Leggett & Platt in Carthage, Missouri retiring in 2011. He enjoyed playing the lottery, going to the casinos, watching western movies, and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Mary Jones, and one brother, Joey Jones.
Jerry in survived by his wife, Carol, of the home; his children, Chad Jones and wife, Devona, of Pierce City, Missouri, Amy Vargas, of Wentworth, Missouri, and Christy Jones and David Bertling, of Parsons, Kansas; grandchildren, Bryenna Jones, and Matthew Jones, of Rogers, Arkansas, Dylan Jones and Macy Jones, of Pierce City, Missouri, Bradley Vargas, Mary Vargas and Joey Vargas of Wentworth, Missouri; step grandchildren, Zach Carnes and Marissa Gifford, of Pierce City, Missouri, Amy Anne Pringle and Alexander Saravia of Washington, D.C., Seth Stubblefield, of Arkansas, and Jim, Justin and Kaci Bertling; step great-grandchildren, Arleigh, Ruger, and Rilyn, Tynzli, Hudson and Hayes Bertling; one brother, Donnie Jones and Diane, of Sarcoxie, Missouri and one sister, Judy Triplett and husband, Larry, of Sarcoxie, Missouri; brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s, Marjorie and Gene Holland, Joe Boswell, and Charles and Barbara Carver; aunts, Flora Farrell and Nyazia Garner, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, Wilma Hagebusch, of Wentworth, Missouri and Mabel Jones of Reeds, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; cousins; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Jones are 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home, with Pastor James Yost officiating. Burial will follow in Sarcoxie Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Matthew Jones, Bradley Vargas, Dylan Jones, Dennis Reynolds, Seth Stubblefield and Don Triplett. Honorary pallbearer will be Joey Vargas. The family has directed memorial contributions to the Sarcoxie Senior Center, in care of the funeral home.
