(From Daniel Funeral Home)
Shirley M. Lamb, age 82, of Lamar, passed away Friday afternoon, February 9, 2018, at Cox Barton County Hospital.
Shirley was born May 29, 1935, in the Newport community, youngest of the three children of James and Margaret (Swearingen) Cornell. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Art and Ray Cornell; and a great-granddaughter, Hannah Lamb.
On April 18, 1952, Shirley married Luther E. Lamb, and they made their home and raised their two sons in Lamar. In addition to being a hospitable homemaker and wonderful cook, Shirley had worked for Big Smith and Davison’s Shoe Store. She and Luther owned and operated the Montgomery Ward Store for several years. Many will remember the excellent customer service they received from Shirley during her 20-year career at Lamar Walmart. After she retired from Walmart, Shirley and Luther had more time to enjoy traveling throughout the United States and spending leisurely days fishing and boating on Stockton Lake. A great day for Shirley was any one that included time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 66 years, Luther; two sons, Leon Lamb, Sheldon, and Russel (Cammy) Lamb, Neosho; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 14th, at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church where the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time Wednesday. A private committal service will be in Newport Cemetery.
