Paul Edmund Thompson, age 92, Joplin, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018 in the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon. He was born on
February 9, 1926 in Omaha, Nebraska, son of the late Chester and Eva Young Thompson. Paul served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II, and during the Korean Conflict.
He married Joy Maeder in August, 1947. Paul was a self-employed building and roofing contractor in the Joplin area. He and Joy were long time members of First United Methodist Church of Joplin.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Patrick A. Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Joy Thompson; two sons, Robert Thompson of Anderson, Missouri, and Tim Thompson and wife Malene of Rising Fawn, Georgia; grandsons, Brad Thompson of Joplin, and Mike Thompson and wife Kristi of Edmond, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Bob Howard officiating. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday.
