(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Charles G. “Jerry” Day, age 74 of Joplin, MO., passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Freeman Hospital following an illness.
Jerry was born on October 16, 1946 in Joplin, the son of Charles H. and Catherine (Shaw) Day. He has been a lifelong area resident. He proudly served his country as part of the US Army during the Vietnam War specializing in single engine helicopters. Jerry continued his service in the military for many years serving in Germany, Virginia, Alaska and Fort Leavenworth, KS. He also owned and maintained several rental properties in the area before retiring in 2016. Jerry enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, camping, fishing, photography and collecting guns. He particularly loved making music with his friends.
He married Lou Shivley in 1977. She preceded him in death in 1992.
Survivors include two daughters; Brooke Clark and husband Doug of Joplin, Dawn Peters and husband Evan of Sioux Falls, SD, two sisters; Janet Kammermeyer of Morgan Hill, CA., Judith Chouteau of Manchester, MO, and six grandchildren; Tobey Clark, Blake Clark, Dylan Clark, Cooper Clark, Emily Peters and Elliot Peters.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City, MO.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
