Josephine Frazier

Josephine “Josie” Marie Frazier, age 94 of Galena, passed away at 7:25 AM on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Freeman West Hospital of Joplin, MO.

Josephine was born just south of Galena in Tennessee Prairie to the union of Samuel Eugene Hixenbaugh and Nelle Bell Hixenbaugh. She was a lifetime resident of Galena. She spent many years caring for her children in the home, but also worked as a Waitress at Reed’s CafĂ©, and at Spring Grove School as a cook. 

She was a member of Tennessee Prairie Friends Church, and was also a member of the What Not Quilting Club that met on Tuesdays, a lifetime member of the Baxter Springs Saddle Club, a member of the Anti-Theft Association (ATA) Dancing Club, and also frequented local dances in Carthage, Saginaw, and Columbus, as well as local Bingo Halls. 








She was an avid bowler and co-ed softball player, loved fishing with her family, loved watching her grandkids play sports, and loved to critique her son David while he was officiating local sporting events.

She was united in marriage with Robert Eugene Frazier on September 4, 1948 in Bentonville, Ar. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1994.

She was also preceded in death by her mother, Nelle; her father, Samuel; her stepmother, Cecil Hixenbaugh; one son, Robert “Bobby” Frazier; three sisters, Annie, Nita, and Mae; one brother, James; two grandsons, Brian Bullard and Randy Moran; and one great-granddaughter, Jimi Kay Moran.

Survivors include three sons, Sam Frazier (wife, Phyllis “Topper”) of Galena, David Frazier (wife, Margaret) of Baxter Springs, and Donald Frazier of Galena; two daughters, Dixie Bullard (husband, Art) of Galena, and Wanda Moran (husband, Rick) of Galena; one daughter-in-law, Patti Frazier of Afton, OK; one brother, Jerry Hixenbaugh (wife, Barbara) of Galena, two sisters, June Murray (and the late Clyde Murray) of Quapaw, OK, and Betty Shallenburger (husband, Fred) of Riverton; as well as 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Tennessee Prairie Friends Church. Pastors Dave Robinson and Jeff D. Martin will officiate. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Doug Bullard, Chet Frazier, Rick Moran II, Ryan Frazier, Robert Moran, and Jeff Frazier. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery of Galena.

Visitaion will take place from 6-7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena.
