(From Lakin Funeral Home)Wendell Gene Spain, age 62, of Springfield, MO passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO. Mr. Spain was born in Butterfield, MO on Sunday, August 10, 1958; the son of Ersten and Flossie (Nicoles) Spain.
He graduated from Pierce City High School in 1976. He, later, obtained an Associates of Arts degree in Hotel and Motel Management.
Mr. Spain married Rosa Canady on Wednesday, September 30, 1981 in Pierce City, MO.
He spent over 20 years working at Miracle Recreation as a paint lineman. Mr. Spain also worked at the North Kansas Expressway Walmart in Springfield, MO in the Deli. He enjoyed NHRA Racing, gardening, cooking, and grilling. Mr. Spain loved spending time with and entertaining his family. He was a member of Hamlin Baptist Church in Springfield, MO.
Surviving are the following: his wife, Rosa of the home; two sons, Charles Spain of Springfield, MO and Maxwell Spain of Bolivar, MO; one daughter, Sheridan Spain of Camdenton, MO; two brothers, Bill Spain of Galena, KS and Rex Spain of Joplin, MO; and three grandchildren, Addison, Gannon, and Theodore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ersten and Flossie Spain; a brother, Dale Spain; and two sisters, Deloris Box and Norma Shepard.
Graveside Services will be at Van Buren Cemetery near Wentworth, MO on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 beginning at 3:00 PM with Pastor Rick Conway officiating. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, MO.
