(From Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home)Bennie W. “Ben” Manley, 84, of Afton, Oklahoma and former longtime Edna, Kansas resident, passed away Friday, January 29, 2021 at the Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
Bennie William Manley was born August 14, 1936 at Sedan, Kansas, the son of Clarence E. “Bus” Manley and Letha Rose (Davis) Manley. Bennie grew up and attended schools in Sedan, Coffeyville and Edna where he graduated from Edna High School in 1954.
Bennie was united in marriage to Judy M. Triebel on May 25, 1956 in Edna, Kansas. They celebrated their 64th anniversary in May of 2020. Following their marriage, they moved to Peoria, Illinois where he worked for the Caterpillar Corporation for several years. Later, he worked on pipelines in various areas around the country.
After returning to Edna, Kansas, Bennie purchased a gasoline filling station and operated B&J Service Station at for 27 years. Bennie and Judy attended the Edna United Methodist Church for many years until moving to Afton, Oklahoma where they currently reside.
He was a member and Past Master of the Edna Masonic Lodge #345, A.F & A.M. He had also been a member of the Scottish Rite and Mirza Shrine. Bennie was member of the American Legion and had served in the Kansas National Guard. He was a former member of the Edna Lions Club and a former Chief of the Edna Volunteer Fire Department. Bennie was especially proud of being a member of the Mayflower Society and was a direct descendent of William Brewster, a passenger on the Mayflower. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in earlier years.

Two Daughters: Sheryl Garr and her husband, Dennis of Springdale, Arkansas
Joyce Helms (Jimmy Bay) – Webb City, Missouri
Six Grandchildren: Andrew Garr and his wife, Jessica, Dillon Garr and his wife, Amanda, Kasey Helms, Kayla Helms, Audrey Manley and Blake Manley & others, Jacob and Maddie Bay.
Three Great-grandchildren: Kailey Garr, Riley Garr and Covin Helms
One Brother: Jimmie Manley and his wife, Juanita of Edna, Kansas
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Joe Helms, a brother, Charles Manley and two sisters, Anna Mae Van Dyne and Connie Jean May.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at the Elm Grove Cemetery north of Edna, Kansas with Pastor Allan Banzet officiating.
Masonic Burial Rites will be given by Edna Lodge #345, AF&AM of Edna, Kansas.
The family will receive friends at the Edna United Methodist Church from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday. Memorials are suggested to either the Edna Fire Department or the Kansas Masonic Home and these may be left at or mailed to the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, PO Box 374, Parsons, Kansas 67357.
