Homer Blair

Homer K. Blair, age 92 of Monett, Missouri, formerly of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021 at his home.

He was born December 19, 1928 in Ashland, Kentucky the son of Homer K. and Mary (Zornes) Blair. 

 On January 24, 1953 in Bardstown, Kentucky he was united in marriage to Josephine Yvonne “Jo” Cecil, who preceded him in death on January 20, 2018. 








 Also preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Fred Blair and Edward Lee Blair and a son-in-law, Ray McDowell.

Surviving are three daughters, Pam McDowell of South Greenfield, Missouri, Monica Hoy and her husband David of Jefferson City, Missouri and Teresa Burleson and her husband Randy of Neosho, Missouri; one sister, Treva Stapleton of Ashland, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Kyle McDowell and his wife Kendra of Ozark, Missouri, Cody McDowell and his wife Sara of Moberly, Missouri, Brandy Rosander and her husband Jay of Cincinnati, Ohio, Colin Anthony and his wife Melanie of Jefferson City, Missouri, Kenny Burleson and his wife Kristina of Aliso Viejo, California and Clayton Burleson and his wife Natalie of Bentonville, Arkansas and fifteen great grandchildren, Vanessa, Brooke, Grayson and Tate Rosander, Maddox, Hudson, Landry and Sutton McDowell, Stella, Nora and Theo Anthony, Aleesa, and Nick Burleson and Lyla and Owen Burleson.

Homer was a graduate of Thomas R. Brown High School in Catlettsburg, Kentucky. From October 2, 1947 until December 12, 1949, he was in the National Guard. During the Korean War he served in the United States Army from October 20, 1950 until October 19, 1952. After leaving the army his career was spent with Woolworth Company, Kling Company and Kopco Printing Company, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Shell Knob. Some of his favorite pastimes were golfing, playing bridge and he loved to go to Texas during the winters. He especially enjoyed being with his family, living on Table Rock Lake.

Homer grew up in and around his Kentucky roots of Ashland until he met the love of his life. They had plans of raising a football team and instead raised three daughters. Homer and Jo made their home in various locations including Louisville, Kentucky, Detroit, Michigan, Independence, Kansas, Webb City, Missouri, Harlingen, Texas and retired to a place they love and call home on Table Rock Lake for 36 years. After the death of Jo he moved to Oak Pointe Assisted Living in Monett, Missouri where he resided for three years.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Shell Knob under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Shell Knob. Father William Hodgson will conduct the services. Burial will be at Pennsboro Cemetery in South Greenfield, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Shell Knob.
