Charles Grissom

Charles C. (Dick) Grissom, age 86, of Carl Junction, went to be with his Lord and savior on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at the Spring River Christian Village in Joplin.

Charles, son of the late John R. (Ray) and Bessie (Bailey) Grissom, was born on October 4, 1934 in Joplin. He attended Joplin Schools and was a graduate of the Joplin High School Class of 1953. 









On September 10, 1955 he was united in marriage to Wanda Donham in Carl Junction. Charles was drafted into the Army and honorably served from 1957-1959 at Ft. Lewis, WA. He was employed as a machinist by Lauener and Son Machine for over 45 years and retired from there. He was a member of the Carl Junction Christian Church, served as a Carl Junction Volunteer Fire Fighter for many years, and more recently volunteered with the ARM Ministries for over 20 years. During his volunteer ministries and within the community, Charles built relationships and was passionate about seeing others come to Christ.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Wanda Grissom, of Carl Junction; one daughter, Charlotte Shoemaker, and her husband, Woody, of Oronogo; one grandson, Jacob Shoemaker, and his wife, Neva, of Lawrence, KS; three brothers, Raymond Grissom, of Joplin, Robert Grissom, Dottie, of Chetopa, KS, and Ronald Grissom, and his wife, Debra, of Joplin; and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Grissom; and two sisters, Jeanne Alford, and Dorothy Thomas.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Parker Mortuary in Joplin with burial to follow at the Carl Junction Cemetery in Carl Junction. Open viewing will be held on Sunday, April 25th during normal operating hours at Parker Mortuary. Family requests casual attire for service attendance.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
