Jimmy McGuirk

Jimmy Leroy McGuirk, age 79, of Glenpool, OK, formerly of Joplin, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021 in Joplin.

Mr. McGuirk, son of the late, John and Thelma (Tieso) McGuirk, was born on April 24, 1941 in Webb City, MO. He grew up and attended school in Carterville. 

After graduation he worked a few jobs locally and in Kansas City before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served his country honorably from 1960 until 1980 when he retired as a Vietnam Veteran. 








On September 2, 1977 he was united in marriage to Carol Valentine in Sherman, TX. After his retirement from the Air Force, he was employed with the United States Postal Service as a diesel mechanic until his retirement. Jimmy loved his children and enjoyed being a grandpa. His family was everything to him.

Survivors include his wife, Carol McGuirk, of Glenpool, OK; two children, Weston McGuirk, of Elmwood, NE, and Cathy Valentine, of Hobbs, NM; one granddaughter, Quinn Zablocki, of Denver, CO; two sisters, Betty Sortwell, of Kewanee, IL, and Mary Knowles, of Joplin; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Bob McGuirk, and two sisters, Ann and Susie.

Memorial services with military honors will be held on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Parker
Mortuary in Joplin. Burial will be held at a later date at the Binger Cemetery in Binger, OK.
