Junior Owens

(From Parker Mortuary)

Chester Jewell Owens, Jr., 59, of Joplin, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Jr was born February 5, 1962, in Seneca to Chester and Patsy (Cupp) Owens. Jr loved the outdoors and any time spent fishing and hunting. He enjoyed listening to music, especially Elvis.

Jr worked as an independent contractor in the drywall industry and was very talented in his trade. A Kansas City Chiefs win accompanied with a Keystone beer made his entire day.

Jr loved his family and was always there when they needed him – day or night. He was the greatest husband and dad that anyone could have ever asked for. He was a good guy with the biggest heart and would help anyone in need. His passing has left a huge void and he will be missed by all who knew him.

On July 20, 1991, Jr was united in marriage to Nickie (Daniels) Owens and she survives.

He is also lovingly survived by his children, Shiela Denton (Cody), Richard Seymour (Amber), and Michelle Pogue (Junior); 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three siblings, Brenda Rutherford (Jim), Becky Rue (Jim), and Bobby Owens; a special nephew, Ben Rutherford; a special aunt, Vera Johnston; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Jr was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Patsy; four brothers, Felix, Mark, Paul, and Gary Owens; and his daughter, Mary Jo Owens.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2021 at Kenney Cemetery in Neosho. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made directly to Parker Mortuary. The family will hold a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at Hope Baptist Church in Joplin for both Jr and his brother, Gary, who passed away April 30, 2021.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
