Mitchell Mathews

Mitchell Allen Mathews of Columbus, KS passed from this life Sunday, August 1, 2021 at his home. He was 58.

Mitchell was born January 13, 1963 in Baxter Springs, KS to Leroy and Louise (Turner) Johnston. He had lived in Columbus for the past 10 years moving from Galena, KS. He graduated from Riverton High School Class of 1981. 

Mitchell was a truck driver working for Dyno Noble in Carthage, MO. He loved restoring his 1972 Mach I Mustang, fishing, hunting, farming and cattle. He was a Las Vegas Raider Fan and a KU Fan. Most of all he loved spending countless hours with his grandchildren.








Mitchell was preceded in death by his wife Joann Mathews in 2008 and his father.

Survivors include 2 sons, Terry Joe Busby of Galena, KS and Dustin Busby and wife Ashley of Galena, KS, his mother Louise Baird of Baxter Springs, KS, 5 brothers, Bus Mathews of Bentonville, AR, Joe Mathews of Columbus, KS, Rick Mathews of Springfield, MO, Denny Johnston of Baxter Springs, KS and Robert Johnston of Colorado, 2 sisters, Donna Lamb of Baxter Springs, KS and Joyce Barton of Noel, MO, 3 grandchildren Kirstyn Busby, Carleight Jo Busby and Raider Allen Busby and several Nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Greenlawn Cemetery, S.W. of Columbus, KS. Rev. Wes Woodcock will officiate. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK.
