Evelyn Guthrie
(From Parker Mortuary)Evelyn Guthrie, age 88, Joplin, passed away at 5:17 a.m. Monday, September 20, 2021 at Mercy Hospital Joplin.
Evelyn was born September 23, 1932 in Gravette, Arkansas to the late Roy Howard and Oma Evelyn (Payton) Helper. Evelyn was the oldest of her siblings and grew up on the family farm in Gravette. She graduated from Gravette High School in 1950.
Evelyn was an Avon representative for more than 45 years. Her customers throughout the years became more like family. She was an avid reader, amazing cook and loved to garden and tend to her flowers, especially her African Violets. Evelyn had a very kind and loving heart. This was evident in the care she took in making many precious crocheted afghan blankets that she gifted to family and friends. Evelyn was also a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Joplin.
Evelyn married Preston Dale Guthrie on March 22, 1951 in Gravette, Arkansas. Together they shared 64 precious years together before his passing on March 9, 2016.
She is lovingly survived by her children, David Howard Guthrie and wife, Gwen, Neosho, Ruth Evelyn Gray and husband, Bill, Joplin, John Dale Guthrie and wife, Cathy, Joplin, Paul Douglas Guthrie and wife Susan, Joplin; grandchildren, Melissa Ramon, Jennifer Guthrie, Crystal Harvey, Erin Hammond, Matt Guthrie, Johnny Guthrie, Hannah Guthrie, Sarah Brite, Jillian Bosch, Joelle Guthrie, Matt Ryan; great grandchildren, Madison Harvey, Jared Harvey, RT Harvey, Riley Guthrie, Alex Ramon, Evie Ramon, Sady Brite, Leighton Bosch and Sullivan Bosch; siblings, Fred Hepler and wife, Rachel, Edie Greenfield, Don Hepler, and Phillip Hepler and wife, Janet; together with a host of extended family and friends.
Graveside services are planned for Friday, September 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Rex Wakefield will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Baptist Children's Home, in care of Parker Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
