(From Clark Funeral Home)Ronald Lloyd Paden, 81, Neosho, passed away peacefully on September 18th at the Westgate long term facility in Joplin, MO.
Ron was born May 2, 1940 to Lloyd and Willadean Paden. He grew up in Fairview, MO on a farm and graduated from Fairview High School in 1958.
While in school, Ron played varsity baseball and basketball. He attended Joplin Junior College on a basketball scholarship and finished his education at Southwest Missouri State in 1962 where he majored in biology with a minor in physical education and an emphasis in secondary education.
He began his teaching career in Neosho teaching 8th grade earth science at Intermediate School for two years then moved into the new Neosho Junior High building where, in addition to science, he taught high school biology. He completed his Master’s Degree in Administration from Pittsburg State University.
Ron was a dedicated educator and loved teaching and received the Neosho teacher of the year award in 1990. He believed in hard work and in addition to teaching, drove a school bus for 19 years and painted houses for extra income. Ron retired from teaching in 1992 after 30 years but never stopped working. He painted houses until 2018 saying he “wouldn’t know what to do if he wasn’t working”.
Ron married his high school sweetheart, Mary McBride, on August 12, 1960 and she preceded him in death on September 17, 2017. They were happily married for 57 years. Ron was a very active member of Neosho Methodist Church where he was a charter member of the Disciplers Sunday School class, which he helped teach, and a member of the United Methodist Men’s group. He also was a member of the Neosho Laymen’s League.
Ron loved his grandchildren and attended many of their various activities such as band performances, sports, dance recitals, art exhibits, and robotics competitions no matter where they lived; MO, AR, or IN. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening especially in his retirement years. Ron was blessed with many special friends and appreciated their friendships throughout the years.
Ron is survived by his two children, Kim (Scott) Schwartz of Lafayette, IN and Douglas (Kelly) Paden of Joplin; 4 grandchildren, Zachary Schwartz, Quinton Schwartz, Bryce (Joy) Paden and Makenzie (Nate) Wesley. He was also blessed with one great grandchild, Jett Paden.
Ron was the oldest of four children. He is survived by sisters Sue Lentz, Kay (Tim) Brown and Ann (Walt) Byrd all of Neosho and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Willadean Paden, step mother Sherda Brown Paden, and brother in law Bill Lentz.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at the United Methodist Church Christian Life Center from 5 pm – 7 pm. Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 am at the Dice Cemetery, Fairview, Missouri, Pastor Mitch Jarvis will officiate. The Casket will remain closed at all times
