Peggy Whitehead

Peggy Lou Whitehead, age 89, Joplin, went to be with her Lord, and her husband Max on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

Peggy was born May 10, 1932 in Marshall, Arkansas, daughter of the late Audy Franklin Shipman and Clo (Holder) Shipman. She moved to Joplin as a child and graduated from Joplin High School. She married Max L. Whitehead on June 24, 1950, and they enjoyed 32 years together before his untimely passing in 1982.

Peggy enjoyed taking care of her family and working in the family business of Mid-West All Cargo. She also enjoyed spending several years working for Rep. Durward “Doc” Hall and then transitioning to helping in the office of Rep. Gene Taylor. She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband Max, Peggy was preceded in death by two sisters, Penny Pearson and Joan Peppers, and a brother, Bill Shipman.

Survivors include her children, Dr. Michael Whitehead and wife Belinda of Lees Summit, Missouri, Mitch Whitehead and wife Glenna of Joplin, and Terri Davidson and husband Bob of Joplin, Missouri; grandchildren, Christopher Whitehead, Corey Whitehead and wife Kenzie, Hayley Moser and husband Brent, and Summer Davidson; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Hudsen, Husten, Hinley, Halley, Hollyn, Halsten, and Baylor; nieces, Debbie Haynes, Denise Cline, and Jill DeHardt; cousins, Ralph and Janet McBride; brother-in-law Richard Whitehead and wife Alice; and lifelong friends, Cecelia Fisher and Jeanette Aldridge.

Graveside service will be Friday, November 5, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Phillip McClendon officiating.

An open visitation will be held at Parker Mortuary on Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
