Don Smead

Don was born on December 2, 1941, to Laurie and Clyde Smead in Kansas City MO. He has a brother Fred Smead with his wife Betty and a Sister Rose Buffington. He attended school in the Kansas City area and joined the Navy after graduating High School. He served 8 years in the Navy including 2 tours of service in Vietnam. 

After his time in the Navy, he married Scherry Webb and they had a son Shawn Smead. He later married Naomi Henson and together they raised Jon Henson, Bryan Henson, Shawn Smead, and Jennifer Henson. 








After working in the elevator industry, he retired to work on his farm in Pleasant Hope MO. Eventually it became necessary to downsize so he and Naomi moved to Diamond MO to be closer to family.

Don is survived by his Wife Naomi, Jon Henson his wife Tammy Henson, Bryan Henson, Shawn Smead his wife Sherry Smead, Jennifer Betherum and her husband Jeff. He has 10 grandchildren Timothy and Becca Enayati, Kelsey and Kyle Parrish, Samantha Enayati, Jacob and Shelby Henson, Katie Henson, Sarah Henson, Derrick Smead, Brock Henson, Abby Henson, Aidan Betherum and 4 great grandchildren that adored their Poppy.

He loved his children, but he really had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He took great pride in building toys for his grandchildren and never missed a basketball, softball, football or soccer game if they were playing. The time he spent crafting furniture in his shop brought him many hours of pleasure and he enjoyed sharing his crafts with family and friends.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday December 18, 2021 at the Diamond Methodist Church in Diamond, Mo. Cremation services are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
