Kay Boyd

Ila Kay Boyd, age 74, of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

Kay, daughter of the late Gano and Ila “Rosey” (Townsend) Whyte, was born on November 8, 1947 in Joplin. She grew up and attended school in Joplin, graduating from Joplin High School with the Class of 1965. 

Soon after during a cruise night on Main Street, she met Edward “Ed” Boyd. They were united in marriage on February 20, 1970 in Miami, OK. 








She was a licensed cosmetologist for over 30 years having worked previously at Newman’s and then with Ray’s Beauty Shop until her retirement. Kay will be remembered fondly for her love of shopping, her crafting talent, and her special sugar cookies that she made for every occasion and sometimes just because.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Ed Boyd, of Joplin; children, Dustin Boyd, of Joplin and Stacey Sadler, and her husband, Jim, also of Joplin; grandchildren, Cody Sadler, Colton Sadler, Carson Sadler, and Azlee Boyd; her brother, Roy Whyte, and his wife, Pam, of Yellville, AR; two sisters, Kathy Brewer, of Carl Junction, and Gayle Holbrook, and her husband, David, of Opp, AL; and several extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Karen Fleming.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Thursday, December 16th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Parker Mortuary in Joplin.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.

  1. Stacey and I have been friends since kindergarten. Ms. Kay's smile and laugh will be in my heart forever. Her antiques made a huge impression on me as a kiddo! I loooved her charming collectibles.
    The entire Boyd family has a special place in my heart. I am so very sorry for your loss.
