David Thompson

Heaven gained an amazing angel, David Harold Thompson, Sr., at 12:35 p.m. on December 29, 2021, age the age of 77. 

He passed away at St. Frances Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma, after a hell of a fight against Alzheimer’s, Vascular Dementia, and Parkinson’s. He was born November 15, 1944, at Sale Hospital in Neosho, to Donald Harold and Erma Lee (Hacker) Thompson. 










David graduated from high school in Ogden, Utah and enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served with pride for 20 years as an antenna Installer Specialist and in the infantry.

David earned the several commendations including, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Sharpshooter Rivel Badge, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon #2.

He returned to Neosho after the military in 1983 and lived the life of a farmer, which he dearly loved until 1998. On May 24, 1985, he married Kristy Lane Thompson in Miami, Oklahoma. Together they enjoyed a life of farming, traveling in their RV and finally settling down in a log cabin in Oklahoma.

David enjoyed most of all spending time with his family. His hobbies included, fishing, boating, black powder rifle shooting, playing his guitar (which he learned to play in his 70’s), going to the beach and seashell hunting, fishing, and hanging out with his ole buddy, the late, Charlie the goose. He recently became the President of the Resident Counsel and Resident Pastor for Broadway Manor Nursing Home, where he was currently residing.

Lovingly adored by him, he is survived by his wife, Kristy of Park Hill, Oklahoma; three daughters, Lisa Murphy of Ada, Oklahoma, Toni Weber and her husband, Bud, of Park Hill, Oklahoma, Michelle Hesslen and her husband, Edwin, of VanBuren, Arkansas; two sons, David Thompson, Jr. and his wife, Dana, of Roff, Oklahoma and Steven Thompson and his wife, Daly, of Fitchburg, Massachusetts; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

His parents and an infant brother, Jimmy, preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2021, at the Clark Funeral Home in Neosho. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Belfast Cemetery, west of Neosho. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
