Oscar Coons

Oscar Dean Coons, age 96, of Joplin, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022, at National Health Care of Joplin.

Oscar was born May 20, 1925, in Midland, Arkansas, son of the late Guy Coons and Melvina Moody Coons. He attended school in Fairland, Oklahoma. He served his country in the United States Army, then returned to Joplin where he went to work for Foremost. He worked for them for over 28 years before retiring. He was a member of American Legion Post 182 and Odd Fellows #70.

He married Iris Jean Rains on July 23, 1951, in Pryor. Iris preceded him in death after 70 years together on April 10, 2021. Oscar was also preceded in death by sister Claudine Bates, and brothers Harold Coons and Carl Moody.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; and the wonderful friends he and “Aunt Patsy” made over the years.

Graveside service will be Friday, January 7, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Pryor, Oklahoma.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
