Alice Horrell

Alice Geraldene Horrell, 81, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 21, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Geraldene was born on Wednesday, August 21, 1940 in Thayer, Missouri to the union of the late Hadley and Dorene (Loven) Davis. She was a graduate of Central High School in Springfield and attended Drury Business College.

On March 19, 1960 she was united in marriage to William (Bill) Aaron Horrell, together they shared fifty-seven years until his passing on May 23, 2017. She and Bill resided in several states, Georgia, Ft. Hood, Texas, Illinois, Arkansas, Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, as well as other cities in Missouri. 

In 1983 she and Bill moved their family to the family’s Missouri century farm in Sarcoxie. They purchased the Foster Insurance Agency and she sold insurance. For more than twenty years she was an agent for the Missouri License Bureau in Sarcoxie. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sarcoxie and enjoyed singing in the church choir. 

She was active with the Sarcoxie Senior Center, served as a board member of Gene Taylor Library; and was a member of the welcome club in Joplin. She enjoyed reading, bowling, golf and watching Hallmark Mysteries. She will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Horrell; father, Hadley Davis; father that raised her, Harley Atkinson and her mother, Dorene; brother, Fredrick Atkinson; and sister-in-law, Jody Atkinson.

Geraldene is survived by her children, Tracy Ann Yount (Mark) of Joplin, Tara Lynn Boenig of Springfield, Dawn Marie Horrell of Sarcoxie and David Horrell of Highlandville, Missouri; five grandchildren, Steven Yount (Rachel) of Ft. Mill, South Carolina, Scott Yount (Courtney) of Joplin, Samuel Yount (Audra) of Joplin, Kelly Burgess (Tyler) of Joplin and Molly Horrell of Ozark, Missouri; seven great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Memorial services for Mrs. Horrell are 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Sarcoxie with Pastor James Yost officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Sarcoxie Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
