Leila Scott

(From Derfelt Funeral Home)

Leila Marietta (Vanderpool) Scott of Galena, Kansas, passed away peacefully early on February 1st, 2022, after a brief illness. She was 73 years old.

Leila was a lifelong resident of Galena, a graduate of Galena High School class of 1966. She loved to stay busy creating things with her hands, always cheerful and giving, a good friend to everyone who knew her.

Leila most loved her family. She is survived by her husband, John (Butch) Scott; her children, Shawna Leigh Serage of Galena and Clark Franklin (Frank) Freeman (wife Cheri) of Pierce City, MO; her grandchildren, Kameron Freeman (fiancé Jess), Springfield; Paige Byrd, California; Stevie Freeman, Carthage; Shaylinn Freeman (deceased); Jamie Logan, Springfield; Avrey Freeman, Springfield, and her great grandchildren Maxon Freeman, Texas; Violet Sherman, Texas; Payton Robertson, Carthage; and Ayden Robertson, Carthage.

Leila was preceded in death by her parents Clark Franklin Vanderpool and Marietta Ruth (Culver) Vanderpool and her sister Carolyn Grace (Vanderpool) Shallenburger.

She is also survived by her brother Clark Galen (Dutch) Vanderpool (wife Mary) of Tennessee and her nephews Jerry David Shallenburger , Bryan Todd Shallenburger (wife Lisa), William West Vanderpool, Clark Culver Vanderpool (wife Amanda), and Nathan Allen Vanderpool (wife Katie).

Leila was a wonderful person who believed in God with Whom she now rests eternally. Her favorite song was “I Can Only Imagine” by Mercy Me. A memorial service will be planned at a later date. The Lord Jesus said, “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many rooms; if that were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will take you to Myself, so that where I am, there you also will be.” John 14: 1-3.
