Sue Bennett

Sarah “Sue” Bennett, age 81, of Columbus, Kansas passed away peacefully Sunday, March 6, 2022.

Sue was born on June 6, 1940, the daughter of Jesse and Alma Presher of (Candor) New York. She grew up and graduated from Candor High School in upstate New York, where she played the tenor saxophone in the school and a jazz band. She babysat to make extra money and was a Girl Scout. 








She resided for many years in the Columbus, Kansas area where she raised her family and was employed at several sewing jobs and retired from working at Ace Electric for 20 years spot welding manufactured small parts. Sue was a member of the Center Christian Church of Columbus, Kansas. She went to church regularly and could recite the bible better than most people and walked the path of Jesus.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters, Marjorie Allen and Shirley Hatch.

She is survived by her brother Frank Root of Memphis, NY, and her four children; Vickie Hess and husband Jeffery of Columbus, Kansas, Deborah Oropesa and husband Paul of Wichita, Kansas, Mark Bennett of Scammon, Kansas, and Paul Bennett and wife Brandy of Joplin, MO, grandchildren; Benjamin Hess and wife Mary, Pamela Hess, Amy Leslie and husband Richard, Jacob Bennett, Joseph Bennett and Holly, Cayley Conrad and husband Trevor, and Joshua Bennett, great grandchildren; Nathaniel Davila, Nicole Davila, Natalie Davila, Aaden Leslie, Garrett Leslie, Collin Leslie, Jayden Bennett, Jaxson Bennett, Ava Bennett, Grayson Bennett, Myles Hess, and several nieces and nephews.

Sue enjoyed spending time with her family sharing memories, baking cookies, apple cakes, and banana bread.

Sue enjoyed crocheting afghans and potholders then sharing with people she loved.

We will greatly miss her spunky go-getting attitude.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, March 13, 2022, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary Joplin, Missouri. Family will receive friends for a visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 pm prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
