Jim Miles

James Herbert Miles, age 93, of Stella, Missouri, entered into rest at 10:53 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the Solace House in Joplin, Missouri. He was born August 28, 1928, in Keytesville, Missouri, to Herbert Virgil and Mattie Janet (White) Miles. 

Jim was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War. While on leave from the Navy, he met Helen Pogue at church in Lamar, Colorado. 

On December 22, 1949, the couple married in Los Angeles, California, and recently celebrated 72 years of wedded bliss.

Jim worked in sales and was a security guard and delivery man; however, serving the Lord was his lifelong career. He was a member of the Silver Moon Full Gospel Church and helped as a teacher, usher, door greeter, and church bus driver. Jim loved to make people laugh and had a gift for telling jokes and stories. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Jim will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Helen, of the home; three children, Linda Takach and her husband, Mike, of Carthage, Larry Miles and his wife, Cheryl, of Stella, and LaMelia Beckett and her husband, Bill, of Stella; two brothers, Bill Miles and his wife, Bobbie, of Prescott, Arizona, and Harvey Ploghaus and his wife, Maggie, of Yorba Linda, California; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and twenty-two great-great-grandchildren, with two on the way.

His father, Herbert Miles, mother, Mattie Ploghaus, stepfather, Paul Ploghaus, and grandson Adam Miles preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022, at the Silver Moon Full Gospel Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Stella. Pastor Phil Barber and Brother Roger Flint will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
