Art Smith

Arthur Dwain Smith, Jr. age 67, Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Mercy of Joplin.

Art was born October 29, 1955 in Fort Lee, Virginia, son of Arthur D. Smith, Sr. and Jo Ann Adamson. He grew up in several locations before landing in Joplin where he graduated from Joplin High School in 1973. 

He worked for Leggett and Platt for several years before beginning his career with Empire District Electric Company in Joplin where he retired in 2017 as Director of Information Services. He was a very talented bass player and played with many local bands over the years. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and his pets, and will be greatly missed by many.

He is preceded in death by his mother, JoAnn Adamson who passed away in 2017.

Survivors include his wife of over 40 years, Barbara Lynn (Peoples) Smith; daughter, Shelly Kelley and husband Dusty of St. Louis, Missouri; stepson, Brady Neely of Fort Collins, Colorado; his father, Arthur D. Smith, Sr. and wife Kathy, of Edmond, Oklahoma, and a step-sister, Stacey Hensley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Inurnment of his ashes will be private in Osborne Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
