Freddie Caviness

(From Clark Funeral Home)

Freddie Lee Caviness, aged 90, peacefully departed this life in his sleep on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Born on June 4, 1933, in Ha Ha Tonka, MO, to Jack and Syble Caviness, Fred's early years were steeped in the rich heritage of his beloved hometown.

Raised in the Ha Ha Tonka area, Fred lived in the iconic Ha Ha Tonka Tower, which once served as the water tower for the "Castle" that sadly burned down in 1942.

He cherished the memories of his childhood adventures, exploring the caves, natural bridges, bluffs, springs, and the lake that now is part of the Ha Ha Tonka State Park, alongside his cousins JR and Ralph Caviness.

Fred proudly served his country in the Army during the early 1950s, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to duty and honor.

On November 4, 1954, he entered into matrimony with Sharon Joy Bertsch, embarking on a journey of love and companionship. Despite Sharon's passing on May 1, 1974, Fred continued his legacy of hard work and dedication, pursuing a career in heavy construction that spanned his entire lifetime. From the late 1950s, where he contributed to projects such as clearing trees for Table Rock Lake, Pomme de Terre Lake, and Quantico Marine Base in Virginia, to 1964 when he co-founded Caviness Bros. Construction with his older brother Harold, Fred left an indelible mark in the construction industry, specializing in installing sewer systems for towns across Missouri.

Despite retiring in 1995, Fred's passion for his work led him to join the City of Neosho, operating heavy equipment, again retiring in 2010. Renowned for his positive attitude and unwavering optimism, Fred faced every challenge with a smile, always finding the silver lining in every circumstance.

Fred is survived by his lifelong companion of over 40 years, Anna Carter, whom he cherished and loved dearly. Also left to cherish his memory are his son Kenneth Caviness, nephew Jerry Mann, along with Anna's children, James Carter and Carri Carter, whom Fred considered his own. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by his late wife Sharon, his son Larry Dale Caviness, siblings Harold Caviness and Pauline Lewis, and his parents.

A funeral service to honor Fred's remarkable life will be held at 10 am on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, with visitation taking place from 6-7 pm on Friday, March 8, 2024. Pastor Doug Gripka will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Fred can be made to St. Jude's, reflecting his compassionate and giving nature.

May the memory of Freddie Lee Caviness bring solace and comfort to all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
