Maxine Aiken

(From Parker Mortuary)

Maxine Lavonne Aiken, age 87, of Joplin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Westgate at Wildwood Ranch in Joplin.

Maxine, daughter of the late Jim and Cloe Violet (White) Woods, was born on January 17, 1937, in Joplin. She attended school in Joplin and soon after she was united in marriage with her beloved husband, Charles "Chuck" Aiken, and together they were active members of the First Community Church of Joplin until Chuck's passing in 2003.

Maxine embodied the roles of a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone around her feel cared for and loved, never allowing anyone to go without or want for anything. This selfless nature extended beyond her own family, as she was known for her open heart to children of all ages. Maxine's grandchildren were the light of her life. Her legacy of love and generosity will live on through the cherished memories that she created with them.

Survivors include one son, Charles Aiken III, of Lamar; grandchildren, Alexander Scott Aiken, and his wife, Brandie, of Carl Junction, Geoffrey Aiken, of Joplin, and Madison Aiken, also of Joplin; two great grandsons, Ethan Aiken and Wesley Goodwin-Aiken; her sister, Kathryn Ford, of Wichita, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members she loved.

In addition to her parents and husband, Maxine was preceded in death by siblings, Nadine Woods, and husband, Clifford Benett, Jack Woods, and wife, Evelynn, Betty Johnson, and husband, Cecil, Mary Schwartz, and her husband, Marion, James Woods, Earl Woods, and wife, Joanne, Rose Macy, and husband, Hubert, Freda Doss, and husband, Kenneth, and Margaret Jo Anne Woods; and one son, Gregory Scott Aiken, in 2009.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Parker Mortuary in Joplin with burial to follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 AM until service time on Wednesday, March 6th at the mortuary. The family would like to extend a grateful thank you to Westgate at Wildwood Ranch and Three Rivers Hospice for the care given to Maxine, and an additional thank you to a dear friend of the family and Maxine, Elisha Summerlin.
