Sylvia Jacobson

Sylvia Jeannette Jacobson, age 85, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, MO.

Sylvia was born September 29, 1938 in Joplin, MO, one of eleven children born to Jeremiah Robert Long and Rosa Cornelia (Watkins) Long. She married Joseph Carl Jacobson in 1955 and graduated from Joplin High School in 1956. 

She worked in the administrative offices of Memorial High School for many years before going to work as the Administrative Assistant at Oak Hill Hospital. 

After receiving her Master’s in Business Administration, she was promoted to Vice President of Human Resources at Oak Hill. She and her husband eventually moved to Viola, MO, where she managed the Senior Citizen’s Center of Shell Knob for several years before retiring in 2008. Both she and her husband enjoyed bowling, square dancing, and spending time fishing, swimming, and relaxing on Table Rock Lake.

She was the pillar of support for her family and enjoyed spending time with them, whenever possible. She loved, and was dearly loved by, her family and friends. She will live on forever in their memories and will be greatly missed by many.

In addition to her parents and 10 brothers and sisters, Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Joseph, a daughter, Sharon Boswell, and a granddaughter, Sylvia Goodwin.

Survivors include her children, Linda Reeder and husband Thomas of Webb City, MO, Terry Filarski and husband Terry of Carthage, MO, Joseph Jacobson of Joplin, MO, Lisa Zajac and husband Sonny of Billings, MO, son-in-law Clark Boswell of Sublimity, OR; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel in Joplin, MO. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary. In lieu of flowers; the family is requesting a donation be made to the Ronald McDonald House in Joplin, MO
