(From Day Funeral Home)We are saddened to share that Terry Lee Cossey, 62, of Conway, Missouri passed away February 27, 2024. Terry bravely fought cancer for two years.
Born May 1, 1961 to Paul and Norma (Smith) Cossey in Carthage, Missouri. Terry was raised in a large, loving, and hard-working family outside of Alba, Missouri. He graduated from Carthage Senior High School in 1979. He spent the next several years traveling the country trucking for various companies.
Terry met Teresa Downing in 2001 and they were united in marriage on June 20, 2006. Terry accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was baptized in 2008.
Terry proudly worked the last twenty-two years of his life with Teresa and the rest of the crew at Downing Sales. He never knew a stranger and made numerous life-long friends. Terry’s favorite time of the year was his pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota and the pheasant feed that followed the hunt. He also truly enjoyed his adventures to Alaska.
Terry had a passion for farming. A love that was bred into him by his father and grandfather. He was raised running cattle and baling hay alongside his family and shared that love with his son, Taylor. Together they enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and farming. As Taylor got older, he also joined his father in the family business. From cattle and hay to trucking, they made quite a team. Terry never missed an opportunity to return home and help his parents and family. Whether it was mowing hay, hauling hay or working cattle, Terry was always there with a laugh and a few good cuss words to keep everyone on their toes.
With a larger-than-life personality, Terry was full of humor and never let anything go unsaid. Terry loved teasing and playing with the kids. Spending time at the lake, camping, skiing, fishing, and driving his boat with his family was one of his most enjoyable hobbies. From spring to fall, you could often find Terry with his dogs, Willy and Hank at the lake watching the sun rise or set.
Preceding him in death was his mother, Norma J. (Smith) Cossey; his father-in-law, Larry Downing; brother-in-law, Kenneth Downing; and grandparents, Dan and Sylvia (Hairl) Smith and Paul “Dick” and Lois (Moreland) Cossey.

Terry is survived by his loving wife, Teresa; his father, Paul Cossey; in-laws, JD and LouAnn Hall; three sons, Taylor Cossey (Kylie); Dalton Cossey (Chyenne) and Austin Cossey (Sara); one daughter, Caitin Dawald (Jeff); four grandkids, Khross, Krayton, Cedar, and Summit; three sisters, Debbie Lee (Gary), Linda Epperson (Rob), and Kelly Lee (Brent); one brother, Kaye Cossey (Pam); nephews, Gary Wayne (Treasha), Chance Lee (Stephanie), Dusty Epperson (Jess), Randy Cossey (Stormi); nieces, Karrie Jackson (Kyle) and Chelsey Hood (Chance); and a passel of great and great-great nieces and nephews, family and friends.
Celebration of Life for Terry Lee Cossey will be held 2:00p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Brent and Kelly’s Garage, 17537 Kafir Rd., Carthage, Missouri 64836. In memory of Terry Lee Cossey, the family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and mailed to 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959
