Joe Barker

Joe Gail Barker of Monkey Island, OK passed from this life Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. He was 90.

Joe was born January 29, 1934 in Miami, OK to Guy and Edna (Reynolds) Barker. He had lived on Grand Lake since 1998, moving from Commerce, OK. He had also lived in Topeka, KS, Columbus, KS and Riverton, KS. He married Jewel Mae Pond on June 26, 1959 in Commerce, OK.

He received his Master's Degree in Education from Pittsburg State University and continued with his Education in Doctorate Studies. Joe was a teacher, coach, principal and assistant superintendent at Columbus Public Schools in Columbus, KS.

After retirement Joe and Jewel spent many happy years living at Grand Lake and attending their grandkids activities. Jewel preceded him in death on July 17, 2023. He was also preceded by his parents and 2 sisters, Geneva Hamilton and Ramona Allgood.

Joe is survived by 2 sons, Terry Barker and his wife Martha of Tulsa, OK and Rusty Barker and his wife Mary Jane of Miami, OK, 6 grandchildren, Guy and Kyrsti Barker of Tulsa, OK, J.P. and Hannah Barker of Tulsa, OK, Hailey Barker and Trent Pilgrim of Wyandotte, OK, Hannah and Lane Stanfield of Edmond, OK, Matt and Paige Barker of Loma Linda, MO and Kim Evans of Riverton, KS and 3 great-granddaughters, Laurel, Emma and Leah.
