(From Buchanan Funeral Home)John Fredrick Fritz, 85, of Freistatt, Missouri, passed away on January 8, 2026, with his wife by his side at Mercy Hospital Aurora, after a long and full life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. He was born on September 26, 1940, on the family farm in Freistatt to Martin and Renata (Block) Fritz.
On September 2, 1960, John married the love of his life, Norma June (Carr), at Trinity Lutheran Church. Their marriage of more than six decades was a testament to devotion, partnership, and quiet, enduring love. They first met while John was working at the Freistatt Exchange, beginning a lifelong bond that shaped both of their lives.
John attended grade school in Freistatt and graduated from Monett High School, Class of 1958. He worked for 29½ years as a shoe cutter at the Juvenile Shoe Factory in Aurora, Missouri. Before that, he farmed alongside his father, work that reflected his strong work ethic and deep connection to the land.
A passionate outdoorsman, John loved hunting, fishing, and collecting deer mounts. He was a proud member of the Monett Sportsman League. His hobbies were many—gardening, woodworking, and crafting items he enjoyed selling at the local farmers market. In earlier years, he cherished weekends spent camping at the lake with family and friends.
At home, John could often be found at the dining room table working on jigsaw puzzles, some taking hours and others taking weeks to complete. He also treasured hosting family and friends on Christmas Eve after church, serving his famous chili—a tradition filled with warmth and laughter.
The joys of John’s life were his children, Lydia and Russell, and the greatest joy of all was his beloved granddaughter Madilyn. She was his pride and delight, and he adored her deeply.
John is survived by his devoted wife June; granddaughter Madilyn; grandson Trentin; daughter in law Harmony; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Renata; his daughter Lydia; his son Russell; brothers James and Charles; and two grandchildren.
John’s life was one of quiet strength, steadfast love, and simple joys. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
