David Brixey

David Dominic Brixey, age 73, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026, following a sudden illness at Freeman Hospital in Joplin. He was born on April 9, 1953, in Corpus Christi, Texas, and lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a spirit that was both adventurous and friendly.

David was the son of the late Melvin and Emma (Nizzia) Brixey. He grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and a practical, hands-on approach to life that would serve him well in the years ahead. He attended Parkwood High School in Joplin, where he built the foundation for a life defined by determination, resourcefulness, and a willingness to take on whatever came his way.

Throughout his life, David was an entrepreneur of many things. He worked in rental property, operated convenient stores, and found his greatest enjoyment in cattle farming. He had a natural ability to see opportunity where others might not, and he approached his work with the kind of steady effort and ingenuity that earned the respect of those around him. He was known as a man who was handy, adventurous, and always ready to lend a helping hand when needed.

Above all else, David loved his family. He was a devoted husband to Mary Gillespie Brixey of Joplin, Missouri, and they shared 35 years of marriage filled with companionship, commitment, and care. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his sons, Michael McKee, Matthew McKee, and Corey Brixey; his daughters, Stacy Larson and Michelle McKee; and his beloved grandchildren, Felicia, Kelsey, Michael, Anthony, Emily, Kinslee, and Dakota. He also leaves behind his sister, Camilla Hertz, and her husband, George.

David had a deep appreciation for the simple and meaningful things in life. He loved being with his family, and he found joy in taking care of animals. Whether he was working the land, tending to his responsibilities, or spending time with those he loved, he did so with a sincere and steady heart. His presence brought comfort and strength to those around him, and his memory will remain a lasting source of love and gratitude for his family and friends.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, September 4, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary in Joplin. Following the service, family and friends will gather for a time of celebration at the Zinc Coffee House Event Center at 1825 S. Main Street in Joplin, Missouri.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
