Holly Murdock

(From Derfelt Funeral Home)

Holly Elaine Murdock, age 53, passed away on March 30, 2026, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City

Holly was born on December 20, 1972, at Maude Norton Hospital in Columbus, Kansas.

She is survived by her parents, Gene Murdock (Beverly) and Donna Murdock. She is also survived by her siblings, L. Dee Murdock (Miranda) and Haley Mahon (Mark).

Holly was a devoted mother to Olivia McDown (Jace), Seth Stover, Ruby Stover, and Jonas Stover, and a loving “Momma Holly” to Della Jayne McDown.

She was a scholar athlete at Columbus Unified High School, graduating in 1991. She went on to continue her basketball career at Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas and St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. She was an Academic All-American.

During her high school and college career she was a member of a select team that would travel to Estonia, USSR and later played with a team that would play in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She later returned home to Columbus and earned her Biology degree from Pittsburg State University. She spent many years working as a Registered Lab Tech at St. John’s/Mercy and Maude Norton Hospital in Columbus,
Kansas before joining her family at Murdock Properties, where she proudly took on the role of what her brother would name “self-appointed boss.” She also spent her time serving on the USD 493 School Board for nearly 15 years.

Holly had many passions, but her faith and her family were the cornerstone of her life. She defined herself first and foremost as a child of God and attended Christ Church of Oronogo in Oronogo, MO. Most recently, Holly, alongside her daughter Ruby, traveled to Poland on a mission trip where they helped teach English in the school system while displaying the love of Christ—a ripple that will continue far beyond her life.

It would be hard to talk about Holly’s passions without putting her children at the very top. She laughed the most when she was surrounded by them and found her greatest joy in having them all together. She loved traveling with her kids and had a deep love for history and historical landmarks. Many times, those two things overlapped, and her kids found themselves on “field trips” disguised as vacations and adventurous hikes.

Washington, D.C. was among one of her favorite places to visit. She raised her children to be deeply rooted in their faith—something she prioritized above all else—and took so much pride in cheering them on at games, recitals, and concerts. Through them, she developed a special love for music and the joy of watching each of her 4 children excel in their talents.

After being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 8 years ago, Holly was treated at MD Anderson, where she participated in a clinical trial that would later help shape the standard of care for others fighting BRCA 2 Pancreatic Cancer. She was one of only five patients to complete the trial, earning her the nickname “Unicorn” from her medical team at MD Anderson.

Holly was our family’s Queen, Warden, and Momma Holly. We know she is fully healed, made whole, and living her next chapter of her eternal story. Holly joins in heaven two sets of grandparents and her stepbrother Travis Paul Gray. We will forever be proud to call her ours—mother, daughter, sister, and friend.

Reflecting on her life we are reminded of one of Holly’s favorite bible verses 1 Peter 5:10 which says…and after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen and establish you.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 2, 2026, From 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the State Theatre, 104 W. Pine, Columbus, KS. 66725.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS.

Bill Wooldridge

(From Simpson Funeral Home)

The universe has lost another great one. On March 30, 2026, Willard "Bill" Wooldridge, a man who could outwit a fox, outlast an energizer bunny, and outfish any seasoned angler, laid his mailbag down for the last time. Born on June 27, 1944, in Lockwood, MO, Willard delivered more than just mail during his career in the Postal Service. He delivered love, resilience, and a sense of community to every life he touched, and he did so with a grin that could light up even the gloomiest of mailrooms.

Willard's life was a testament to the quote "Do what you love, and you'll never work a day in your life." He adored his family, fishing, mowing the yard, and playing with his grandkids. He was the kind of man who could find joy in the everyday tasks, turning them into adventures. You could often find him with a fishing rod in one hand, a lawnmower in the other, and a grandkid on his back. It was this love for the simple things in life that made Willard a man of many talents and an endless source of amusement for his loved ones.

In his downtime, Willard was also a military enthusiast, a proud father, and a loving husband to his wife Pamela. He was preceded in his journey to the great unknown by his parents, John and Bertha Wooldridge. He is survived by his wife Pamela and his sons Robert (Ashleigh), Bret, and Michael (Angela), and Mark (Tida). His granddaughter Hannah will miss her grandpa's playful spirit and the fishing lessons he so loved to give.

Willard's life will be celebrated on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 12:00pm at the Lake Springfield Park and Boathouse, following which graveside honors will be held at 2:00pm at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. As the saying goes, "A life well-lived leaves its gentle pattern on the hearts of all...and the world is a lovelier place because one man touched it with warmth and kindness and love."

Services are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home. The family encourages relatives and friends to visit www.simpsonfh.com to share photos and memories of their loved one. After all, a picture speaks a thousand words, and we're sure there are at least a thousand hilarious tales to tell about our dear Willard. We invite you to share, laugh, and remember the wonderfully witty man who brought so much joy into our lives.

Carol Russell

(From Simpson Funeral Home)

Carol Jane Russell, born on October 19, 1950, in Webb City, passed away on March 30, 2026, in Joplin.

Maya Angelou once said, “In order to be a mentor, and an effective one, one must care. You must care. You don't have to know how many square miles are in Idaho, you don't need to know what is the chemical makeup of chemistry, or of blood or water. Know what you know and care about the person, care about what you know and care about the person you're sharing with.”

Carol was a passionate caregiver who worked in the nursing field for almost 50 years. Her dedication to the field and to her patients was an inspiration to those around her. As a nurse practitioner, she taught the next generation of professionals, leading with love, and leaving a piece of herself in every one of her students. Her strong presence and caring heart leave a legacy that will live on through them.

She was a free spirit and loved to travel. Any chance she got, she was on a boat, a bus, or a plane, experiencing all that life had to offer with her mother Mary and aunt Al. She loved the finer things in life, whether it be a perfectly cooked steak or a elegant Coach bag. She deserved the best and she knew it. This extended to her family and her dogs. They were the most important things in the world to Carol, and she loved nothing more than to spoil them rotten.

She had a rich personal life and enjoyed a variety of hobbies. She enjoyed reading, following Cardinals baseball, and watching the news. She was a fan of WWE, and passed this love on to her granddaughter, Chloe. She loved to cook and was very passionate about carrying on her family legacy through food. In another life, she became a prima ballerina with her dear friend, Becky Mitchell.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Carla (Dena) Lantz and Opal Russell; grandchildren Chloe (Timothy) Boone, Rylee (Isabella) Boone; brother Bud; cousin Connie (Mike) Baird; and special friend Brian Boone. She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Williams; her father Vernon Williams; her aunt Alice Roeber; and animals Daisy, Toby, The Great Cat Lucy, Ruggy, Toodles, Ruby, and Olive.

A funeral service will be held on April 4th, 2pm at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City.

Joyce Holt

(From Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home)

Joyce Holt was born February 21, 1937, in Mountain Grove, Missouri, the daughter of Ernest and Lola (Purgeson) Owens. She grew up with five sisters and the kind of steady, small-town love that stays with you for a lifetime. Joyce passed away on March 30, 2026 while living at Kabul Nursing Home.

As the fourth of six children, Joyce learned early how to work hard, share well, and find joy in the everyday rhythms of farm life north of Mountain Grove. She attended Mountain Valley country school—walking alongside her sisters each day—and later graduated from Mountain Grove High School with the Class of 1956. Before long, she was greeting neighbors and friends at the Ben Franklin store on the north side of the historic square, beginning a working life marked by reliability and warmth.

In 1955, Joyce met Louis Raymond Holt while he was home on leave from the United States Marine Corps. Those who knew them best would tell you it didn’t take long for Joyce and Raymond to realize they had found something special. On September 15, 1957, Rev. Homer Smith married them at her parents’ home. Together they built a life that would take them near and far, and they welcomed two children along the way, Tammy (born in South Carolina) and Doyle (born in North Carolina).

Joyce took real pride in being a military wife. Deployments to Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Cuba, and Okinawa brought long stretches of waiting and missing one another, but Joyce kept home feeling like home, wherever they were. Over the years, the Marine Corps carried their family to places like Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Pearl Harbor (Hawaii), and Santa Ana, California—and Joyce met each move with steady love and a gift for making a new place feel familiar.

After 26 years with the USMC, Raymond retired, and in 1978 Joyce and Raymond came back to a farm north of Mountain Grove to be closer to family. They enjoyed supporting the local VFW Post 3770, American Legion Post #30, and Fleet Reserve Association (FRA Branch 364). Joyce later worked for Walmart for 19 years, and the two of them settled into a routine that friends smiled to hear about: most mornings, Raymond made sure Joyce got to work on time, and after her shift he’d pick her up so they could head to the Hayloft restaurant for supper. They were known there as regulars—and good tippers. They also loved trips to Branson for a show and a good meal. After Raymond passed away in January 2017, Joyce moved into town in late 2018. She enjoyed being close to her sisters, going out to eat, and watching old westerns. As her health declined, she moved to Kabul Nursing Home in 2022.

Joyce accepted Christ as her personal Savior, and her faith remained a steady part of her life. Through the years she attended services at base chapels, and later she worshiped at Mountain Valley Free Will Baptist Church of Mountain Grove.

In addition to her parents, Ernest and Lola Owens, Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond; her sister, Ernestine Smith; and her parents-in-law, Elmer and Minnie Mae (Tate) Holt.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Tammy Ashlin (Harold) of Mountain Grove; her son, Doyle Holt (Michele) of Carl Junction, Missouri; four sisters, Jean Moore, Dorothy Stigall, Marjorie Carter, and Linda Keys, all of Mountain Grove; six grandchildren, Heather Terrill (Jonathan), Dalton Ashlin (Courtney), Wyatt Ashlin (Alyssa), Liam D. Holt (Ashley), Anna Kiera Holt Kennedy (Jeremiah), and Tyne Michele Holt (William); two great-grandchildren, Tatum Terrill and Macie Ashlin; her brothers-in-law, Lonnie Holt (Charlotte) of Mountain Grove and Vernon Holt (Lanea) of Mackay, Idaho; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

The family extends special thanks to the staff at Kabul Nursing Home, along with Janet Ratterree and Christina Sasser, for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Joyce.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lymphoma Society or the Alzheimer’s Association c/o the funeral home.

Evelyn May Barnes (née Schmidt) was born on December 17, 1945, at home in Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania, a small coal mining town in the western part of the state. As the youngest of five children, family was at the center of her life. Because of this, she became a strong, kind, and generous person. She made friends easily and was a natural caregiver. These traits remained constant throughout her life.

After graduating from high school, Evelyn moved to Washington, D.C., where she began working for the Federal Aviation Administration. This is where she met the love of her life, Jimmy Barnes, who was introduced to her by “Uncle Paul.” They were married on June 3, 1967. Three weeks afterwards, they left for England. From there, they traveled the world from one adventure to another. Three and a half years later while overseas in England, they welcomed their son, Kevin James.

In April of 1998, Evelyn and Jimmy moved to Mt. Vernon, Missouri, where she worked for a title company and a paving/construction company. As a devoted member of First Baptist Church, her servant’s heart shone brightly. She volunteered faithfully at local nursing homes and was deeply involved in church ministries. This included Wednesday night dinners, funeral meals, and AWANA. She also participated in the church’s Disaster Relief Group, assisted with Red Cross efforts, and served at the local food pantry.

Claude Yocum

(From Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home)

Claude O. Yocum, 79, of Seneca, Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 9:06 am, surrounded by his loving family.

Claude was born in Joplin, Missouri, on December 11, 1946, to Doris R. Yocum and Freda E. Turner. He was a 1965 graduate of Seneca High School, where he mastered being ornery and creating a little trouble-traits that those who knew him remember with a smile. He was a 2-time Golden Gloves boxing champion and excelled in football.

On July 29, 1965, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Carolyn Cummings, who survives. Together, they built a life centered on love and family and were blessed with three daughters: Claudia Michelle, Stacie Lyn, and Stephanie Renee.

You could not find a tougher, harder-working man than Claude. He retired after 25 years of working for Simmons Foods in Southwest City. He approached life with grit, determination, and strength that those around him deeply admired. With his beautiful blue eyes and that mischievous grin, he had a way of bringing both comfort and a little mischief to those around him.

Claude found joy in the outdoors-whether horseback riding, fishing, or hunting-but nothing meant more to him than his role as a husband, dad, grandpa and poppy. He was a devoted family man who took great pride in "his girls," a phrase he often used with love and affection. He was the epitome of a 'Girl Dad,' embodying a rare and profound devotion to his daughters. His greatest happiness came from the time he spent with his family, and his legacy lives on in the strength and love he gave to them.

He is survived by his adoring wife of 60 years, Carolyn; his daughters and their families, Michelle and Troy Lipe, Stacie and Brian Aldridge, and Stephanie Merriman, all of Seneca; and his grandchildren, the lights of his life: Keshia Gatewood; Jared and Hannah Lipe; Haylee and Tucker Fenix; Dalan and Brittany Merriman; and Dayton and Max King.
