Bobby Stewart

Bobby Joe Stewart, age 62, of Joplin, Missouri, entered into rest on July 18, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. 

Bobby was born on January 9, 1964, in Joplin, Missouri and resided in Granby for many years. He was a graduate of East Newton High School and had worked as a forklift operator at Schrieber Foods. He enjoyed old cars. 

Bobby is survived by two brothers, Jerry Stewart and wife, Teddi of Granby and Randy Stewart of Joplin and ten nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Mary (Williams) Stewart, a brother, Paul Stewart and a sister, Donna Peak.

Jimmy Dale Cooper

Jimmy Dale Cooper, age 81, of Anderson, Missouri, departed this life on Monday evening, July 20, 2026, in the comfort of his home, after a recent decline in health.

Jimmy Dale was born on December 3, 1944, in Anderson, Missouri, and was a lifelong resident of the community he loved. He was a 1962 graduate of Anderson High School and carried the values of hard work, loyalty, and devotion throughout his life. On June 26, 1964, he was united in marriage to Naomi Lee Bishop, and to this union two children were born. 

Jimmy Dale spent much of his life in service to his family and his work. He served as general sales manager for Teledyne Gear Division in Neosho, Missouri, where he was respected for his dedication and strong work ethic. In 1994, he and Naomi founded Cooper Gear and Manufacturing in Anderson, and he remained active in the family business until his health began to decline. His commitment to the business and to those around him reflected the pride he took in building something lasting for his family and community.

He enjoyed working, hunting, and on occasion traveling. He was known for his willingness to stay busy and for the satisfaction he found in a job well done. Those who knew him will remember his quiet strength, his dependable presence, and the care he showed to those closest to him.

Jimmy Dale is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Naomi Cooper, of the home; a son, Shawn Cooper and wife, Mendi, of Anderson; a son-in-law, Steve Spears, also of Anderson; six grandchildren, Brittany Sherman and husband, Bryon, Jill Riggs and husband, Jimmy, Jacob Cooper, Brooke Decastro and husband, Riley, Tyler Allgood, and Jeremy Barr; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cloetta Spears and Sharon Cooper, both of Anderson; as well as a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel and Pauline (Lewis) Cooper; a daughter, Michelle Spears; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Spears.

Graveside services are 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2026, at Oakwood Cemetery in Neosho, Missouri with Doug Spears and Dennis Bergen officiating. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Jacob Cooper, Madden Clark, Brayden Sherman, Cash Riggs, Bradlee Sherman, Tyler Allgood, Riley Decastro and Jimmy Riggs. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers memorials are being directed to Oakwood Cemetery Care Fund, c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the care of Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri.

Adalynn Legg

With profound sadness and broken hearts, we announce the passing of our precious daughter, Adalynn Joyce Legg, who was born on March 27, 2026, and passed away on July 12, 2026, at just three months of age.

Though her time with us was far too short, Adalynn brought endless happiness, joy, and love into the lives of our family. She was the happiest little girl. Every smile, laugh, cuddle, and precious moment shared with her will be treasured forever. She was deeply loved and will always remain in the hearts of us and everyone who knew her.






Adalynn leaves behind her loving parents, Kaius Legg and Kahlyn Lee; her beloved brother, Allias Legg; her grandparents, Chris Legg, Deborah Muse, Paige Pisoni-Morrow, Jeramie Lee, and Jesse Pisoni-Morrow; as well as many other aunts and uncles who will forever cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her great grandfathers, William Muse, Donald Legg, and Jesse Earp and her great grandmother, Nancy Joyce Legg, who she was named after.

Although Adalynn’s life lasted only three short months, the love she brought into this world will remain forever. She will always be remembered as a beautiful daughter, sister, granddaughter, and a treasured blessing whose memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will be no services held at this time.

Patty Kremp

Patty Sue Kremp, age 90, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away peacefully on July, 19th, 2026 surrounded by family.

Patty was born on April 19, 1936, to Kenneth and Ruby (Jones) Burns. She attended Prairie Chapel Country School in Barton County, Missouri before graduating from Lamar High School with the Class of 1954.

Following graduation, Patty worked for both the Lamar Democrat and Attorney Combs, where one of her daily duties was making sure his dog received an ice cream cone. She later worked at the ASC Office in Lamar.

On August 4, 1956, Patty married Harold John Kremp in Springfield, Missouri. Together they built a life centered on family and farming. While raising their family, Patty was a devoted homemaker and farm wife, assisting Harold with the family’s DeKalb seed corn business while creating a loving home for their children. She also babysat Mike Madison and Christy Pyle for many years, and they always held a special place in her heart.

A woman of unwavering faith, Patty was a faithful member of her church throughout her life. She was a longtime member of the Vita Vota Extension Club and the Friendship Needle Club. She also dutifully served her community, helping conduct elections for Newport Township and serving as Treasurer of the Morehead Cemetery Board for more than 30 years, as well as serving as Secretary for the Newport Township Road Board for 42 years.

Patty tended a large garden each year and preserved much of its harvest through canning. For many years, she welcomed her children and grandchildren into her home every Sunday for family dinner. During the summer months, those gatherings often ended with homemade ice cream, one of Patty’s favorite treats.

She also loved to travel. Over the years, Patty visited 47 states and, at the age of 75, took her very first airplane ride, something she had never imagined doing. Branson remained one of her favorite destinations, where she enjoyed shows, shopping, and spending time with family and dear friends.

In her later years, Patty enjoyed working at Dot’s on the Lamar Square, where she was known for her beautiful gift wrapping skills. She especially loved shopping there and often joked that although John and Shiela gave her a paycheck, she usually returned an even larger check for her purchases from the store.

Above all, Patty was devoted to her family. She found her greatest joy in being together, whether gathered around the Sunday dinner table, traveling, or celebrating holidays. She will be remembered for her generous heart and the unwavering love she gave to those she cherished.

Patty is survived by her three children, Tammy (Mike) Wilson of Jerico Springs, Missouri, Kristy (Tom) Runion and John (Chris) Kremp, both of Lamar; her grandchildren, Thomas (Amanda) Runion and Joshua Runion, both of Republic, Missouri, Christopher Runion of Lamar, Jonathan (Sarah) Wilson of Jerico Springs, Emily (Patrick) Costa of Milford, Massachusetts, Erin Kremp of Framingham, Massachusetts, and Joe Kremp of Springfield, Missouri; several great-grandchildren; her first cousins, Virginia Cromer of Louisville, Kentucky, and Carolyn Foster of Greeley, Colorado; extended family members; and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 30 years, Harold John Kremp, and her parents, Kenneth and Ruby Burns.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, at Konantz Warden Funeral Home in Lamar. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Morehead Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Morehead Cemetery in Patty’s memory. Contributions may be left at or mailed to Konantz Warden Funeral Home.

Lenora Neely

Betty Lenora Neely departed from this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 17, 2026. Born on December 16, 1932, daughter of late F.D. and Golda Sharon. She was baptized at First Baptist Church at the age of 14. 

She was united in marriage to Harold Kenneth Neely on November 9, 1951; he survives. 

Lenora attended Radium and Charter Oaks country schools and graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1951. After graduating she worked as bookkeeper for Central National Bank, Carthage Ice and Storage, Jasper County Extension, and Ramsey’s. Lastly, she was the receptionist for First Baptist Church and received a degree in Christian Education Ministry from the Southern Baptist Seminary. She enjoyed teaching the 2-year-old Sunday School Class, and was director of Seniors-Second Miler Club, after retiring she directed Vacation Bible School and did missionary work in Venezuela. 

Lenora was a member of American Legion Auxiliary and Pythian Sisters. Lenora along with husband Harold volunteered as Ambassador’s at McCune Brooks Hospital for over ten years. 

She loved gospel singing. 

Lenora was the mother of Lisa Ann Myers (David), three grandchildren Travis Myers (Shauna), Craig Myers (Linda), and Stacy Hagensieker, six great-grandchildren Justin, Makenzie, Hudson, Laken, Brooks, and Celia. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother David Lee Sharon, two infant daughters, Loretta Kay and Elizabeth Ann Neely. 

She loved the Lord and wanted others to know Christ. 

The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage. The visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Park Cemetery in Carthage immediately following the service. 

Any contributions can be made to the Baptist Health and Medical Center NICU in Little Rock, Arkansas, in care of Ulmer Funeral Home.

Sylvester Lane

December 5, 1989 - July 16, 2026

Most of you knew my husband as Sylvester Layne. A lot of you knew him as Sly — a rose by any other name.

Sly came to Springfield in 2008 to attend Baptist Bible College. He chose it on purpose, because their mission lined up with what was already burning in him: a love of ministry, a hunger to know the Bible deeper, and a faith he wanted to spend his whole life serving. That was eighteen years ago, and he never left. He served faithfully at churches and nonprofits all over this city, including James River, Deliverance Temple Ministries, and Baptist Bible College.

He also built something here. Sly was the proud, hardworking owner of the Tech Bar, where he repaired more than 5,000 phone screens and fixed every iPhone and Android problem his neighbors carried through the door. If your phone broke in this town, there’s a good chance Sly is the reason it’s working today.

If you ever met him, you already know the rest. The smile that pulled you in before he said a word. The kindness that never ran out. He was the guy who would give you the shirt off his back even if he’d met you five minutes ago. He was an avid sports fan who showed up for our local teams with his whole heart and his own wallet. He never once met a stranger — the second he met you, you were someone he cared about, and he kept caring about you for good.

The man who spent his whole life rushing to everyone else’s emergencies became the one who needed us.

At 10:15 a.m. on July 15th, Sylvester went to be with the Lord.

He was my absolute best friend and my greatest love, and he will be missed with words I can’t even find right now.

Thank you, babe, for being the most amazing husband and my best friend. I will love you forever and always. As much as I hate not having you here with me, I love knowing that you are healthy and whole, and that you finally get to meet our kids and teach them all the things you were so good at — loving the Lord and loving me. You fought so hard, and you will always be my Superman. I’m so grateful I got to spend these last five days with you, just like we used to.

This isn’t goodbye — it’s goodbye for now. I’ll see you later, babe. I love you.

Jerry Jumper

Dr. Jerry L. Jumper, 84, Joplin, MO. passed away July 10, 2026 at the Solace House of the Ozarks in Joplin after an illness.

Jerry Lee Jumper was born May 2, 1942 in Colbert, OK, the son of Louis Jumper Sr. and Mallie (Cowan) Jumper.He was a 1960 graduate of Page High School in Page, AZ. Jerry did his undergraduate studies at Arizona State University and received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery in 1970. He did his internship at St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City, MO, and then practiced family medicine across the state of Kansas, in towns like DeSoto, Garden City, and Sabetha, KS, and in Missouri in Ava, Springfield, Rolla, Nevada, finally retiring as Chief Medical Officer at Access Family Healthcare, in 2020. 

He served as the Secretary of The Kansas State Board of Healing Arts, and was a lifelong advocate for patient care. He loved animals (esp. English Bulldogs), gardening, traveling, and held a civilian pilot's license for many years during the 70s and 80s.

Jerry married Norma Jane (Janie) King on June 24, 1967, in Olathe, KS, and they were married for 54 years when she preceded him in death on December 1, 2021. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mallie Jumper, 2 brothers, Jack and Louis Jumper Jr., 4 sisters, Norma Sue, Brenda, Juanita, and Maxine, and one son, Brad Jumper.

Survivors include his sons; Brian Jumper-Osterholt of Council Bluffs, IA and Greg Jumper of Summers, AR, his grandson, Bradley Jumper, and 1 great grand-daughter, Camille, of Afton, OK, as well as many nieces and nephews and their children.

Per Jerry's request his body has been taken for cremation under the personal direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home Seneca, MO, and there will be no services.

Karla Houston

Karla Jean Amos-Houston, 69, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away on July 15, 2026 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born on October 2, 1956 in Monett, Missouri, and lived most of her life in Tulsa. She worked for many years at Hillcrest Medical Center, then at Children’s Medical Center until they closed. She was a member of the Tulsa Area Iris Society since 2001 and loved growing beautiful iris and daylilies.

She was a loving and devoted wife to husband Keith and was loved and admired by her many friends. She was always there to help a friend in need and we miss her terribly.

She is survived by her husband, Keith Houston, and sister Denise Amos. Relatives Gary & Maesha Keltner and Judy Walker.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Delores Amos, and her father, Charles E. Amos.

Graveside services are being held at 1:00p.m. on Tuesday July 21, 2026 at the Monett I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Monett, Missouri. No visitation is scheduled.

Dee Woodard

Dolores June “Dee” Woodard, age 93, of Joplin, Missouri, died on Thursday July 16th, in Hollister, MO, following a long-fulfilled life. 

Dee was born on September 17, 1933, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Fronia E. (Young) and Nelson Tingler, Sr. She was the third youngest of ten children. 

When Dee was a young girl, she had her first taste of stardom. Dee and several others had a chance to try out for “Little Rascals”, a new show in Hollywood was trying to cast. She was very easy to pick out because she was the only blonde. Our star was born and she enjoyed her fifteen minutes of fame! She graduated from Shawnee High School in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She then went on to attend and graduated from the Oklahoma University (OU) School of Nursing in Norman, OK in 1955. 

She married her husband, Wayne A. Woodard, a prominent regional funeral director, who had recently been released from the United States Army. They were married on November 5, 1955, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Wayne preceded her in death on September 15, 2001. 

After Dee and Wayne were married, they moved to Bentonville, Arkansas, where she worked as a nurse and they had their first son, Steve Woodard. To receive a $400 raise, they moved to Hominy, Oklahoma. Dee was the head nurse at Hominy Hospital. Bruce L. Woodard and Valenda Dee Woodard were both born in Hominy. Six months after Valenda was born, they moved the family to Noel, Missouri. Dee was a stay-at-home mom in Noel and assisted at the funeral home. 

They moved to California, Missouri, for one year; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for one year; and Sikeston, Missouri, all while working as a nurse and sometimes the county health nurse. Dee and Wayne started their funeral home ownership in 1961 with the purchase of Woodard- Downey-Mooney Funeral Homes in Pineville, Anderson and Noel, MO. 

In 1967 they purchased  Williams-Woodard Funeral Home in California, MO, later acquiring funeral homes in Otterville, MO, and Pilot Grove, MO. In 1976 they moved to Joplin and purchased Mason-Woodard Mortuary. They obtained four additional mortuaries; Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home in Webb City,  MO in 1982, then Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home in Lamar, MO in 1988, Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage, Mo and Woodard-Freund-Thompson Funeral Home both in 1990. 

Dee was a long-time member of Mount Hope Church of Christ, formerly 4th and Forest Church of
Christ. She and Wayne were founding members of the California Church of Christ in California,
Missouri. They were also, members of the Grove Church of Christ in Grove, Oklahoma. Dee was a devout Christian. She always taught classes and helped with VBS and Wednesday night meals. If the doors were open at the Church, Dee was there, with three children and a quiet heart to serve. She loved attending and hosting many Church functions. She and Wayne would attend neighboring Church revivals, Vacation Bible Schools, knocking doors to invite others to church, as well as Sunday Sing-alongs. She was a member of the National Evangelism with Sojourner’s Church of Christ Mission Group. The Sojourners have a home base where they receive letters from smaller Churches in need. The Sojourners would pack their R.V.’s and head to help that Church. She was a volunteer at Freeman Hospital. In 1986, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and later, was very proud to be a breast cancer survivor. She was also a longtime member  of Soroptimist International of Joplin. She was also a MSSU Lionbacker. 

She is survived by three children; two sons, Steve Woodard and wife Elena, of Anderson, Missouri; Bruce Woodard and wife Kim, of Joplin, Missouri, and Valenda (Woodard) Moore and husband Shane, of Carthage, Missouri; one brother, Donald Tingler and wife Rita, of Indianapolis, IN; eight grandchildren, Cole Woodard and wife Alicia, Austin Woodard and wife Megan, Ashlee Schiller and husband Kevin, Julianne Bassett and husband Dan, Haley Tolliver and husband James, Alex Woodard and wife Hannah, Levi Moore, and Drew Moore; and fifteen great grandchildren; Everette, Mara, Ellie, Massey, Maggie, Kalloway, Addison, Auggie, Theodore, Booker, Dottie, Dominic, Derric, Luke, and Andy. 

Dee was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Woodard, her parents, Nelson A. Tingler, Sr. and Fronia E. (Young) Tingler; two brothers, Nelson A. Tingler, Jr. and Jay Dee Tingler; six sisters, Dorothy Lee Bowen, Mary Dean Vanderburg, Karletta Tingler, Betty Lou Tingler, Norma Jean Davis, and Joyce Marie Tingler. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until service time. Randy Wilson will officiate. If you have a cancer pin, scarf, hat, or a t-shirt, please wear it to Dee’s services. 

Entombment will be at Ozark Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorial Contributions may be given to Soroptimist International of Joplin Camp Soroptimist or Soroptimist International of Carthage

Sheila Tubaugh

Sheila Marie Tubaugh, age 57, of Golden City, Missouri, graduated to Heaven on July 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Sheila was born on June 2, 1969, in Kansas City, Kansas, to James Dewayne Sims and Debra Ann (Alexander) Elliott. She graduated from Golden City High School with the Class of 1987. On September 17, 1994, she married the love of her life, Ricky Lee Darin Tubaugh, in Golden City, Missouri. Together they shared 30 wonderful years of marriage before Ricky's passing in November 2024.

Sheila was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose greatest joy in life was her family. She had a true servant's heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether caring for her children and grandchildren or supporting family and friends, Sheila found her greatest happiness in putting others before herself. She treasured every moment spent with those she loved, and her kindness, compassion, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her mother, Debra Elliott of Lamar, Missouri; two sons, Austin (Ashtyn) Tubaugh and Christopher Tubaugh, both of Joplin, Missouri; one daughter, Cassandra Tubaugh of Joplin, Missouri; five beloved grandchildren, Karson, Kinley, Cayde, Lydia, and Lylah; two brothers, Ronnie (Peggy) Elliott of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Marcas (Summer) Elliott of Springfield, Missouri; two sisters, Madison Elliott of Golden City, Missouri, and Shelly Sims of Sacramento, California; one nephew, Dylan Sims of Joplin, Missouri; nieces Megan (Matthew) Peace, Katie Elliott, Isabel Elliott, Taylor, and Thomas; and great-nephews Blake, Viktor, and Mikah.

Sheila was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ricky Tubaugh; her stepfather, Tom Elliott and her father, James Sims; her grandmothers, Margie Hollis and Priscilla Tubaugh and many others.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Dudenville Cemetery in Golden City, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Daniel Funeral Home.

Lee Barker

Elmer "Lee" Barker, 74, passed away on Wednesday July 15, 2026. Lee was born to Francine (Spence) Scholes and Elmer Barker on September 5, 1951. He was one of eleven children. 

He was preceded in death by both parents, brothers Everett Gire, Leon Gire, and sister Denise (Gire) Gregory. 

He is survived by siblings Clayton Hayes, Kendall Gire, Ernest Gire, Bobby Scholes, Rachelle Banes, Lenora Scholes, Rebecca Scholes, and son Logan Wright.

Lee's greatest accomplishment was being the loving and caring father of Logan Wright,of Oklahoma, for 27 years. His favorite things to do with Logan were to laugh, joke, fish, watch westerns, and work. He spent most of his life in the siding and window business. He was an animal lover. He resided in Joplin Missouri for the last several years. He will be missed.

Inurnment at Moore Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Violet Vasquez

Violet Jean Vasquez, 75, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on July 17, 2026, at Solace House of The Four States in Joplin, Missouri, following an extended illness.

She was born on January 15, 1951, in Joplin, Missouri, to the late Emory and Esena (Adamson) Owens. Violet spent her life in the community she called home and was known by those who loved her as a woman of warmth, humor, and quiet strength. She carried herself with a spirit that was both adventurous and selfless, and she touched the lives of many through her kindness and steady presence.

Violet attended Joplin High School and later devoted her working years to caring for others as an in-home health aide. Her work reflected the very heart of who she was, because she had a natural gift for helping people feel comfortable, respected, and cared for. She approached life with compassion and a willingness to serve, and she made a difference in the lives of those she assisted through her patience and gentle manner.

Faith was an important part of Violet’s life, and she was a Christian. Her beliefs helped guide her through life’s joys and challenges, and she found strength in her faith and in the love of her family.

Violet especially loved to crochet, and she found comfort and satisfaction in creating with her hands. She also enjoyed going to casinos, where she embraced the excitement and fun of the experience. Those who knew her best will remember her as funny, adventurous, and selfless, with a personality that could brighten a room and a heart that was always ready to give.

She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Sajid and her husband, Mohammad, of Baxter Springs, Kansas; her grandchildren, Lauren Percell of Miami, Oklahoma, Kamaal and Raheen Sajid of Baxter Springs, Kansas; her sister, Loretta Hartman of Carl Junction, Missouri; brother, Allen Owens of Joplin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will cherish her memory. Additionally, Violet was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Owens.

No services are planned at this time. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.

John Willard “Rock” Porter, 79, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on July 15, 2026, one day after his 79th birthday.

John was born on July 14, 1947, in Miami, Oklahoma, to Willard Porter and Ruby Clingenpeel Porter. He attended Baxter Springs High School with the Class of 1965, where he earned varsity letters in track and field as a high jumper.

On May 28, 1966, he married the love of his life, Naoma McCracken. Together they shared 60 years of marriage and raised twin sons, Jason and Jered.

John was a lifelong entrepreneur, builder, and real estate developer. At age 22, he founded a house-framing business and soon established Porter & Sons Building, Inc., through which he built hundreds of custom and speculative homes throughout the Liberty and Kearney, Missouri, areas, as well as in Grove, Oklahoma. He later worked alongside his wife and sons in the family’s hospitality companies, developing, building, owning, and operating more than a dozen motels, including Super 8, Days Inn, and Booneslick Lodge properties. The family also developed shopping centers, restaurants, and convenience stores over the years.

John enjoyed coaching his sons’ youth basketball teams, had a lifelong affection for pugs, and will be remembered for his entrepreneurial vision, creativity, quiet determination, deep devotion to his family, and unwavering Christian faith. He was a faithful member of the Joplin East Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard Porter and Ruby Clingenpeel, and his sister, Bonnie Goff.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Naoma Porter, of the home; sons Jason Porter of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and Jered Porter of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; granddaughter Kammi Thorne (Michael) of Buckeye, Arizona; grandson Korby Porter and his fiancée, Josie Smith, of Kirkwood, Missouri; sisters Lisa Goff of Anderson, Missouri, and Lori Porter (Lisa Sweet) of Carl Junction, Missouri; sister-in-law Harriet Davis of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; brother-in-law Sonny Goff of Stella, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Memorial services are pending. Interment of his cremated remains will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Galena, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society in John’s memory.

Terry Bright

Terry Fae Bright, 74, went to be with the Lord on July 15, 2026. Terry was born on December 13, 1951 in Hutchingson, Kansas to Clifford and Edna Bright. He grew up in Mindenmines, Missouri, and graduated from Liberal High School with the class of 1970. He married his first love and best friend Shirley Silvers on June 19, 1971.

He drove a bus for the CP Center for many years before retiring, he also owned and operated a law care business. He enjoyed watching wrestling, westerns, the 3 Stooges, and Foghorn Leghorn Cartoons. He enjoyed camping, fishing, being outside and was a huge Kanas City Chiefs Fan, always enjoying an unsweet tea while watching them.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Shirley Bright, four daughters, Candice Bright, Tracy Price (Jason), T.J. Wilson (Daniel), and Jamie Bright; six grandchildren, Dakota Kosilla (Tia), Cierra Kosilla (Devon), Jasmine Kosilla (Daniel), Hazel Wilson, Tristyn Wilson, Ethan Wilson; six great grandchildren, Samuel, Brantley, Easton, Clinton, Brooklyn, and Crimson; nieces, Kelly, Holly, Stacy, Cody, and Dusty; nephews, Chris, Josh, Blake, and Scott; great nieces, Samantha, Annaveil, and Saphyre; great nephews, Ryder, and Jeramiah. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Katie Bright; father in-law, Homer Silvers; a brother Jerry, a sister Rose.

Terry will be remembered for his laid-back personality and his infectious smile, and his ornery sense of humor. The family ask you to honor him by wearing your Chiefs gear or the team colors.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday, July 20, 2026 at Knell Mortuary burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery Carthage, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 pm Sunday, July 19, 2026 at Knell Mortuary. JB Mullins

Johnnie Berton Mullins Jr., Springfield, Missouri who was born on May 13, 1969, in St. Joseph, Missouri the son of the late Johnnie Mullins Sr. and Jaloyce Edwards, passed away on July 15, 2026, in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of 57, lived a life marked by intelligence, wisdom, and fierce loyalty to the people he held dear.

He was a man who valued continued learning, hard work, and the simple joys that made life fun. While his full name was Johnnie, people who knew him best knew him as JB. JB attended Cameron High School but ultimately graduated from Kickapoo High School in Springfield and went on to enlist in the military. He served in the US Army as a paratrooper, which was ironic because he had always previously been afraid of heights! 

During his service he trained not only to jump out of airplanes but to be a radio operator amongst many other roles. At one point he had been stationed in Germany, and he often loved to share memories from that time in his life. He served in the Persian Gulf War, notably Desert Storm, and the battle of 73 Easting. He continued to show his steady devotion and undying love for the brothers he served with until the day he departed. 

JB then went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Technology from Missouri State University, where he worked in Computer Information Systems for Missouri State University. While he did have many different jobs and titles throughout the years, he was known to be a great handyman. He often referred to himself as a “Jack of all trades, master of none”, a nod at his military past, no doubt. For a time, he worked for the Cameron Veterans Home. He often reminisced of the experiences and people he had met there with fondness, and he felt much pride in being able to serve others who had served his country before him.

JB will be remembered most for the love he shared with his family. He is survived by his former partner Barbara Ownby of Springfield, Missouri who he shared 18 years with respectively, and their children, Hannah Mullins and her partner Zachary Bingham of Springfield, Missouri, Aaron Mullins of Springfield, Missouri, and Legan Mooney and wife Erin of Nixa, Missouri. He is also survived by his brother, Chris Mullins of Springfield, Missouri, several half and step siblings, nieces and nephews, and many loving and caring aunts, uncles, and cousins of the northwest Missouri area where he originated. 

His family was an important part of his life, and the bonds he shared with them were a source of pride and great fulfillment. He leaves behind cherished memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Those who knew JB understood that he was a thoughtful and intelligent man with a wise outlook on life. He had a deep appreciation for history and enjoyed learning about the past. He also found pleasure in the everyday things that brought comfort and enjoyment, including Springfield Cashew Chicken, cars, fishing and hunting, and working on guns. These interests reflected his personality and the balance he maintained between curiosity, practicality, and a love of the outdoors. 

Whether he was exploring a subject that interested him or spending time in quiet reflection, JB approached life with a steady and observant spirit. But ultimately, his greatest pastime was spending quality time with his kids. Everyone who knew him or encountered him could not help but hear him brag about how amazing and cherished his kids were to him. He often beamed when speaking about them to others and wasted no opportunity to remind them how proud he was of them and how much he loved them.

Family and friends can find solace in the fact that JB loved fiercely and his strong will never allowed him to give up, but that he is now and much deserved, at peace.

At ease, soldier. Until we meet again.

Jeanene Crow

Vivian “Jeanene” Crow, 86, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Aspire Senior Living in Joplin. Jeanene was born on December 28, 1939, to Lee and Elizabeth Nixon in Carthage. She graduated high school and started working as a seamstress for Big Smith Manufacturing in Carthage. She was a member of the Alba Christian Church and loved to travel with her husband. 

Jeanene was united in marriage to Virgil Crow in 1953; he preceded her in death. 

She is survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Along with her parents and husband, Virgil, she was preceded in death by her only son, Monte Crow in 2012. 

Per Jeanene’s wishes, she will be cremated, and her family will hold a private service at a later date.

Clarise Conway

Clarise Faye Conway, 93, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Cox Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Clarise was born on February 23, 1933, to Rufus and Mary Magalene Culley, in LaRussell, Misouri. 

After high school, Clarise worked as a floor supervisor at Big Smith Manufacturing in Carthage. She was a member of the Blake Baptist Church in LaRussell. She liked to mow her yard, work in her garden, and riding motorcycles with her husband, C.V. 

Clarise was united in marriage to Cloud Victor “C.V.” Conway. They spent 59 loving years together before he preceded her in death on September 2, 2014. 

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Houck and Mary Conway, both of Carthage; one sister, Connie Hicks of Carthage; one stepsister, Jean Sanders Campbell of Carthage; three grandchildren, Jerimie Bastings, Jeff Houck, and Jill Keplar; four great grandchildren, Damien Bastings, Clara Keplar, Wyatt Keplar, Kinsli Jones (Tyler); and one great-great grandchild, Ryker Jones. 

Along with her husband and parents, Clarise was preceded in death by one daughter, Glenda Riddle Pflug; three brothers, Scott Culley, Gary Culley, and Clarence Culley; one stepsister, Sue Todd Storbeck; and one son-in-law, Carl Houck. 

There will be a graveside service for Clarise at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Carthage, Missouri.

Ernie Ludders

Ernie J. Ludders, age 79, of Joplin, MO passed away peacefully in the comfort of home on June 10, 2026. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ernie was born on July 11, 1946 in St. Francis, KS to his parents Elmer and Iola (Jones) Ludders. He completed his bachelor’s degree and later opened Ludder Consulting Services, which he owned for many years prior to his retirement.

He married Kathy Pershall on January 11, 1964 in St. Francis, KS and she survives. Additional survivors include their three children, Tammy Doggett (Darren), Tim Ludders (Ruth), Todd Ludders, seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

No services will be held at this time.

Donna Jones

Our mother, a champion of children, said her last goodbye and her first hello on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Donna Irene Jones, age 77, of Joplin, Missouri breathed her last breath at her home after a beautiful life of 55 years with her sweetheart, David Jones and her children by her side.

She was born January 31, 1949, in New Castle, Indiana to Donald and Joy (Davisson) Wyatt. From an early age, Donna recognized her passion for caring for people. Donna married David on August 7, 1971, in Wilkinson, Indiana. As a part of their lives together, they served the Lord’s Kingdom at their home church, West Side Christian Church in Springfield, Illinois, in children’s ministry, deaf ministry and fostering children in their home.

Donna realized her personal mission of fighting for victims, especially children, in working at Inner City Mission in Springfield, Illinois, Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and as the Executive Director for Illini Children’s Christian Home in St. Joseph, Illinois. Donna was an active member of Park Plaza Christian Church, Joplin, Missouri.

Donna is survived by her husband, David; seven children, Desiree (David) Stephenson of Lincoln, Illinois; Delicia (Daniel) Bare of Joplin, Missouri; Ditzah D’Camp of Spring, Texas: Daralice (Joshua) Allison of Carl Junction, Missouri; Doron (Melissa) Jones of New Palestine, Indiana; Dawn (Gary) Larsen of Cudahy, Wisconsin; Dalyssa Jones of Webb City, Missouri; two brothers, Joseph (Donna) Wyatt and Kevin (Sue) Wyatt; one sister, Regina (Ronald) Covey; 24 grandchildren and 2 grandchildren-in-law, 2 great grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her mother’s second husband, Bill Erwin, son, Drew Jones and granddaughter, Gwendolyn.

The family will receive friends 2:00 – 4:00pm Sunday July 19, 2026, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary Joplin, Missouri. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday July 20, 2026 at Park Plaza Christian Church with Mark Scott, officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

Naomi Barchak

Naomi Juanita Barchak, age 95, passed away on July 12, 2026, in Joplin, Missouri. She was born in Fairview, Missouri on December 30, 1930, to Lilburn Luney and Juanita Booton Luney.

She married John Barchak on June 9, 1947, in Monett, Missouri. They lived in Joplin, Missouri and then moved to Kansas City. They returned to Joplin when John retired. She was a dedicated wife and always there when you needed her. She loved flowers, and her yard was full of them. We always enjoyed home cooked meals, pies, and cakes. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Jeannie Ann Barchak in 1947, and her husband John Barchak on August 15, 2015.

She is survived by her sister Jeanine Harvey of Liberty, MO and her children John Barchak Jr. (Cheryl) of Joplin, MO, Robert Barchak (Shirley) of Joplin, MO, Diane Barchak Harrell (Steve) of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Richard Barchak of Urich, MO, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 21, at Mason-Woodard Chapel in Joplin, Missouri.

A graveside service will immediately follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Sarcoxie, Missouri.

 

Jim Smith

James Edward “Jim” Smith, age 73, of Shell Knob, Missouri passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at his son's home in Oklahoma.

He was born August 31, 1952 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of Jack and Leona (Petot) Smith. On June 19, 2004 in Cassville, Missouri he was united in marriage to Janet G. “Jan” Reid, who preceded him in death on October 18, 2017. Also preceding him in death were his parents.

Surviving are his sons, Steven Smith and wife Katrina of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Brian Smith and wife Christina of St. Louis, Missouri; daughter, Jennifer Stephens and husband John of St. Louis, Missouri; 11 grandchildren and a great grandchild on the way.

Jim grew up in St. Louis, where he attended school and graduated from Hillsboro High School. He was employed by Maritz as a shipping coordinator, where he worked for 20 years until his retirement. Jim moved to Shell Knob and served for several years as a jailer with the Barry County Sheriff's Department. He had made his home in Shell Knob for the past 30 years.

In his spare time, Jim enjoyed woodworking and hunting. He loved the simple things in life and the time he spent with family and friends. Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 20, 2026, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cassville, Missouri, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Rick Cooper and Mick Epperly will conduct the services.

Angie Wittner

Angela Linnett Wittner, age 55, of Webb City, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK.

Angie was born on September 21, 1970, in Carthage, MO, to the late Jerry and Evelyn “Pauline” (Clark) Rea. She graduated from Webb City High School in 1988 and carried the values of hard work, loyalty, and perseverance throughout her life. 

Angie built a meaningful career with Liberty Utilities, where she served as a Business Account Manager for more than six years. She took great pride in her work and truly enjoyed being part of the Liberty Utilities family. 

Angie was blessed with three children, Ashley, Autumn, and Rylan. She married John Wittner on February 5, 2009, in Joplin, MO. Together they enjoyed fishing and those peaceful times were among her favorite memories. They were blessed with 17 years of marriage before Angie’s passing. Angie found joy in the simple and meaningful parts of life. She loved spending time with her family and treasured the moments they shared together. 

Angie was a homebody at heart, happiest when surrounded by the comfort of home and the people she loved. She also enjoyed taking selfies and photos of her family, preserving special moments that reflected her deep affection for those closest to her. Her life was also marked by courage. She was a cancer survivor over five years ago. Angie will be remembered for the love she gave so freely and for the many ways she enriched the lives of those around her. Her family and friends will forever cherish her laughter and gentle spirit.

In addition to her parents, Angie was proceeded in death by brother-in-law, Dan Wininger; and nephew Justin Willis.

Angie is survived by her loving husband, John Wittner; three children, Ashley Allen and husband, Nate, Autumn Patterson, and Rylan Wittner; three grandchildren, Gracyn, Jensen, and Theo; three sisters, Kathy Wininger, Glenda Willis and husband, Rusty, and Debbie Rogers and husband, Dyton; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed and Loretta Wittner.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be sent to Endometrial Cancer Research Foundation or a Cancer Foundation of your choosing.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel.

Fred Donnell

On December 17, 1950, a cold winter’s day in Springfield, Missouri, Charles Frederick Donnell enter this earthly world. He was the third child of George and Arlene Donnell. 

Fred was a quiet, mellow child with his parents wondering if he would ever stand and walk because he was so content. Four years later George and Arlene’s fourth child arrived, and he and Fred would become the best of buds throughout their lives. Together they kept their family entertained and laughing for years. Their sister recalls the two of them jumping out of their second story bedroom window, in their underwear, in the snow, while she and their mother were entertaining the church Women’s Mission Group. Their sister happened to see them pass by the dining room window just as they were beginning to serve the ladies beautiful petit fours their mother had painstakingly prepare for the festive event. Their sister helped them back in the house before the ladies or their mother knew what had happened.

On July 14, 2026, a beautiful summer’s day in Billings, Missouri, Charles Frederick Donnell left his earthly home. Fred fought the good fight for eleven months against glioblastoma brain cancer, the cancer that took his son, Jason, on May 4, 2022. Fred was blessed to have his devoted wife, Charlotte, by his side through the battle. He endured three surgeries, chemotherapy, radiations, an electrical impulse cap, and multiple trips to St. Louis Barnes Hospital. And through it all he kept his quick-witted humor, entertaining doctors and nurses along the way. We know Fred heard God say to him, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”

In 1969 Fred graduated from Parkview High School, Springfield, MO. He attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS majoring in architecture and graduated from Drury University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Fred spent twenty-five years as a Springfield Police Officer. He was well liked by those who served alongside him as well as those who served under him as he rose to the rank of Lieutenant. As can be expected, Fred had many hilarious stories about his encounters with criminals, even while serving on an undercover drug unit. After retirement Fred served on the Wilson’s Creek cannon brigade where he shot the cannons to the amazement of park visitors. During his twelve years on the brigade, he developed longtime friends. Fred was also known as Commander Fred as he gave colorful traffic reports on a local radio station.

Fred had two sons, Jason Donnell and Corey Donnell. He married the love of his life, Charlotte Garton, on April 3, 1982, and they shared forty-four years together. They have two granddaughters, Logan Miller and Madelyn Donnell and a grandson, Silas Smith.

Fred and Charlotte traveled across the USA enjoying their adventures in nature. Their favorite place to travel was the Gulf of Mexico coastline, often with Fred’s parents and his siblings’ families. Many Easters were spent celebrating life on the white sandy beaches, dining on their mother’s amazing meals. Fred inherited his mother’s culinary gift, trying new recipes to the delight of others. Fred was artistic and creative and to some Fred could appear to be gruff but in reality, he was a tender-hearted soul.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, George F. and Arlene C. Donnell, and by his son Jason M. Donnell.

Those remaining, feeling the great loss of Fred are his wife, Charlotte Donnell, Billings, MO, his son Corey Donnell, Springfield, MO, his older brother, Ronald T. Donnell (Patricia) Peoria, AZ, his sister, Janevra D. Hockensmith (Phillip) Springfield, MO and his younger brother, Gregory P. Donnell (Jacquelyn) also of Springfield, MO. Their two granddaughters Logan Miller (Alex) Ft. Bragg, NC, and Madelyn Donnell, Joplin, MO, and their grandson, Silas Smith, Lockwood, MO. His nieces and nephews: Kathy Jacklin (Trevor) Glendale, AZ, Kari Clevenger (Brandon), Raymore, MO, Jeff Donnell, North Richland Hills, TX, Chris Donnell (Wendy), South Orange, NJ, Brandon Bridgeforth (Michele), Kansas City, MO, and Andrew Bridgeforth, Bellingham, WA. As well as many great-nieces, great-nephews and dear first cousins.

Those of us who knew Fred will have so many wonderful memories of his irresistible humor and his unwavering love for his family. Rest in peace our dear Fred.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Crane First Baptist Church 30 Hallelujah Dr., Crane, MO 65633, and will immediately be followed by the funeral service. Burial will follow at the Crane First Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mike Larson

Richard “Mike” Larson, age 72, passed away on July 16th 2026. He was born on July 5th, 1954 in Joplin, MO., to the late Richard and Wilma Larson.

He was raised in Carl Junction until age eight when his family moved to a farm north of Carl Junction, MO. He attended Waco Elementary School and then graduated from Carl Junction High School in 1972. He attended MSSU and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education. He was hired to teach math and to coach by Jerry B. Stark.

He taught five years and during this time he married the love of his life, Julia L. Speakman, on May 31th 1980. After teaching, he decided to farm with his father. Upon returning to teaching, he moved to Briarbrook and resided there for 40 years.

He has two loving children, Alex Michael and Kirsten Lynne. He was a Methodist his entire life, attending New Hope United Methodist, Carl Junction Methodist, and Pleasant Hill Methodist Church. He was rebaptized in July 2020 by Pastor Bob Simon in his backyard pool.

After 27 years of education at CJHS, he worked at the Joplin YMCA and refereed football and basketball for 10 years. He was the Southwest Missouri Athletic Director of the Year in 1997 and selected to the inaugural class of the Carl Junction Athletics Hall of Fame.

Mike’s family was his entire life. His kids and grandkids meant everything to him and he loved spending time with them. He is survived by his wife Julie, his son Alex, and daughter Kirsten. His sister Cindy and husband Donnie. His grandkids Evey, Smith, Ace, Josie, and Tennessee. His nephew Austin and niece Rachel, along with many cousins.

Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at the Carl Junction High School Gymnasium with Chaplain Roger Flint officiating. Burial will follow at Carl Junction Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 4-7:00 p.m. at the High School Gymnasium.
