Virginia Johnson

Virginia F. Johnson, age 88, of Carl Junction, Mo., passed away on Sunday November 29, 2015, at Communities of Wildwood, following an illness.

Virginia was born March 9, 1927 in Joplin, the daughter of the late George and Ethel (Watkins) Millard. She has been a lifelong area resident. She married Cecil Johnson on June 22, 1946 in Columbus, Ks. and together they raised two children. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She worked a few years at American Fixtures and several years in the catalog department at Montgomery Ward. She has been a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Carl Jct. In her younger days she enjoyed square dancing and bowling. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing and cooking for her friends and family.

Virginia is survived by her husband of almost seventy years, Cecil Johnson, Carl Jct., Mo.; one son, Larry Johnson and wife Sherry, Joplin; one brother Jim Millard and wife Ruth, Joplin; four grandchildren, Christy Metcalf and husband Doug, Baxter Springs, Ks., Zeb Carney and wife Beth, Carthage, Mo., Brandon Johnson and wife Erin, Joplin, and Ashley Bawl and husband Justin, Joplin; and four great-grandchildren, Addison and Lauren Carney, Gavin Johnson, and Riley Ball. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shari Carney in 1997, and by one brother, Bill Millard in 2011.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Carl Jct. Pastor Russell Roderick will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Doug Metcalf, Zeb Carney, Brandon Johnson, Gary Johnson, Justin Bawl, and Bernie Crosby.
The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Carl Jct. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church of Carl Jct. in care of the mortuary.
