Opal O. (Conley) McCaslin, 91, of Pittsburg, formerly of McCune, Kansas, passed away at 5:38 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Via Christi Village.
She was born May 1, 1924 at Cushing, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Berry and Willmer Iona (Clevenger) Conley. She attended grade school at Monmouth and graduated from McCune High School in 1941. She lived the majority of her life in McCune.
On December 25, 1942, she was united in marriage to Lee Hevel McCaslin at McCune. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2004. Mrs. McCaslin was the Linotype operator for the McCune Herald. During World War II, she worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant. She also taught cake decorating at Labette Community College. She was a member of the McCune United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Connie Lee Weber of Lamar, Missouri and Cathy Morey of Strafford, Missouri; four grandchildren, Cherie Thomas, Lori Horton, Trisha Loudermilk, and Jarod Morey; and eight great-grandchildren, Wyatt Smith, Josie Smith, Megan Loudermilk, Seth Loudermilk, David Lee Schenker, Suzanna Schenker, Logan Morey, and Brandon Morey. She was preceded in death her parents, husband, two brothers, one sister, and one infant grandson.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday (January 4th) at the McCune City Cemetery, McCune, KS, with Rev. Thomas Barton officiating. Burial will follow in the McCune City Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army. Friends may also leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
