Mr. Benjamin Ray “Ben” Crosby, 82, of Anderson, Missouri, departed this life on Monday, February 8, 2016, surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home, after a recent battle with cancer.
Ben entered this life on March 23, 1933, in Anderson, Missouri, one of seven children born to the late Lester Ray and Lillian Lena Lucille (Carmen) Crosby. He was raised and attended school in Anderson. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during Korea, enlisting on April 29, 1953. On August 10, 1955, in Neosho, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Luverne Irene Meyer and to this union a son and daughter were born. For over thirty-six years he was employed by Koss Construction of Springfield, Missouri, specializing in concrete highway and airport construction, working allover Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Iowa. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local Union 16 Springfield & 101 Kansas City, former member of the Anderson VFW, several local square dancing clubs and attended worship services at Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Carthage, Missouri. He enjoyed raising cattle, cutting wood and was an avid deer hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Robert Crosby and Rosemary Carter.
Ben is survived by his wife of sixty years, Luverne Crosby of the home; two children, Ben Crosby and wife, Kim, of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Theresa Nease and husband, Jim, of Kaw City, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Marc Crosby and wife, Jennifer, of Nashville, Tennessee and J.D. Shoemaker of Wichita, Kansas; a brother, Earl Douglas Crosby of Norfolk, Virginia; three sisters, Wanda Benge and husband, Roy, of Palestine, Texas, Nina Baker of Garfield, Arkansas and Ona Mae Reardon and husband, Jack, of Anderson, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Crosby are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Reverends Roger Mackie and James Schnackenberg officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Peace Valley Cemetery in Anderson, Missouri. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Marc Crosby, Eric Benge, Hank Carter, Renzil Readon, Rex Baker and Cory Reardon. J.D. Shoemaker will be serving as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Memorials are being directed to either Good Shepard Lutheran Church or Hospice Compassus and contributions may be left at the funeral home.
