Carolyn Dale

Carolyn Chubb Dale, age 88, passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016 at National Health Care in Joplin.

Born May 16, 1927 in Baxter Springs, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Ivan Chubb and Helen Humphrey Chubb and moved to Joplin in 1954.

Carolyn attended Baxter Springs Schools, Baker University, University of Colorado and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Pittsburg State College. She taught in Joplin Schools for over 40 years. Genuine love and care were at the core of all she did.

A member of the First United Methodist Church, she was involved with the youth group for many years. She enjoyed volunteering with the Girl Scouts and was a troop leader. She was a proud Kansan and dedicated to the history of her hometown of Baxter Springs. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega women’s fraternity and PEO Sisterhood, Chapter GA of Missouri.

She married James Dale, Jr in 1954 in Baxter Springs. He precedes her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Dale Stidham and husband, Greg, of Checotah, Oklahoma, Martha Dale and partner, Stacia Green, of Seattle, Washington and two nieces and their families. In addition to her husband and parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by a young daughter, Susan Elizabeth Dale, and her sister, Suzanne Ollington.

The family would like to thank Adelmo Family Care, Avalon Hospice and National Health Care for their genuine and loving care of Carolyn. A special thanks to Sue and Marsha for years of steadfast devotion to Carolyn and our family.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 10, at 1pm at First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Private interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Joplin Schools Foundation, The Alzheimer’s Association or the Baxter Springs Historical Museum in care of Parker Mortuary.

  1. Such a kind woman. I typed her Christmas letter for many years. She loved to talk about her girls.
